Is Kenzer In Trouble?

I've noticed over the past few months that releases from Kenzer & Company have slowed to a trickle. Also, their website never seems to get updated anymore. I have noticed this pattern with other companies in the past and it does not seem to bode well.

Does anyone know if Kenzer is in trouble? I REALLY hope not. They seem like nice guys...

I have my doubts that the company in real trouble. With a cash cow like KODT in their product line, it seems unlikely that they'd go out of business. Of course, it's not impossible, it's just less likely.

Necromancer and Kenzer just recently announced a new partnership, wherein Kenzer will publish some Necromancer modules. (Necromancer is not ending its existing partnership with Sword & Sorcery; it's just that SSS doesn't have as many slots on the schedule as Necromancer has products to publish.)

So no, I don't think Kenzer's going away any time soon. :)

i don't know anything about the business end. heck, even Whizzers of the Cost, a Hasbeen subsidiary could be in trouble as far as i know.

but Kenzer seems to be available in stores. so i'd guess they are still viable.

Well, considering that they just upgraded the server on their website, I would assume they are doing okay. Server upgrades don't exactly seem to be something that a company going down the tubes would do. I've also seen pre-upgrade updates on their website as well. www.kenzerco.com

For Kalamar, they have released a few books in recent months - including the Elves & Bugbears of Tellene & a city map folio. No idea on Hackmaster & KODT, as I don't buy that product.

Strong and Healthy

As far as I know Kenzer is strong and healthy, I don't know why one would get the idea they aren't. I don't know what their release schedule is, all I know is that we (Necromancer Games) are planning to do a steady number of books through them. I believe that Kenzer is really careful about announcing release dates (as some of us are now and wish we had started being so earlier) and generally don't announce or advertise a book until it is already off to the printer. The Kingdoms of Kalamar official D&D releases need to go through some sort of review at WotC so this might have slowed them down, I honestly can't say.

Kenzer's comic lines and other products pretty much help support their RPG releases, which are profitable, just not enough to support the staff on their own. These guys LOVE the RPGs so I don't really see them stopping with them.

If for no other reason than that Mark Plemmons seems like a genuinely fine person, I hope Kenzer & Company is around for a long, long time.

I went to their website yesterday and the sections that I frequent have been updated within the last week or so.

No worries here...

I hope so - their products are crap.

Gotta disagree with ya here, my wordy-friend. I'm no fanboy when it comes to putting the love on for rpg companies, in general. That said, KotDT rawks, and Goods and Gear was a particularly fantastic release of late.
