Is Mike Mearls responsible for the design of Essentials?

Or, was this stuff in the pipeline before he took over.

I'm interested because I really like what Essentials is trying to do and I'm wondering if this is a result of the reshuffling, or if this is leftover from the previous regime.

Thanks.

Well, maybe he'll drop by and answer that question for you, hehe. I can imagine what his answer would be though, its always a team effort. And being the HMFWICH doesn't mean you're the guy that should be getting credit for something, the vision could be coming from anywhere in the team (or everwhere). The head guy is just the one that has to be sold on the right vision. IME head guys are in a position where they can mess things up bad but rarely are they also in a position where they can make it much better. Its a bad team that relies on one superstar.

There's obviously a team effort involved here. That's not what I am asking. As the lead designer for D&D, did Mearls push this new direction Essentials is taking or was this something that he came into mid-design and just followed-through on it.

Eh?

It has an old-school feel, which fits with Mearls. He also is the one who designed PH3, so he is pushing class design.

This is my idea anyway, Wizards took it straight from a post I made on the focus group blog I was involved with last spring. I'm not upset as I was paid decently for my participation in blog comments, and the post was a very basic outline, but I directly suggested a new Red Box, and a "basic game" that was point for point compatible with the regular core.

It is good, that some of the former designers are no longer with WotC (won´t name them explicitely). I actually do like mike mearls interaction with the community.
