Is Star Wars a dying game?

Do you really believe there's no reason behind making everyone at ILM sign an NDA on Episodes 7, 8 and 9 if there's no Ep. 7--9 ?
I believe there is a very plausible reason behind an NDA regarding Ep 7-9 ESPECIALLY if there is not going to be any 7-9.

Lucas hates rumormongering. I have absolutey no doubt that he would put a gag order on folks involved with his projects just to shut them up even if there is nothing to actually talk about.

Very typical behavior for Lucas.

As far as the original question goes, I know of one group that's currently playing SW and one guy in one of my groups is interetsed in running a SW campaign. If that's a small sample, I would assume there are more people playing it too.

There will be no Ep. 7-9.

Hmm, I recently heard there were some discussions about "finishing" the series. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he did.

Are you serious? I bet he LOVES it. It's free publicity for him. What he doesn't like are people on his crew violating their NDA but rumormongering I'm sure he's all for.

One of my pay-to-paly games is a Star Wars game and I was under the impression that they were pretty much waiting for the third movie before doing any more books.

I saw the mini's at GenCon, they are a few different flavors of sweet.

As far as episodes 7-9 goes, I remember seeing GL in an interview years ago saying that he wasn't interested but if someone else wanted to that was fine by him. Although I doubt it happens any time soon.

I figure we will never really see the end of Star Wars. Everytime there is a format change we will see a big push to release the movies. With the thrid one finally coming out, and now that the OT (sort of) is coming out we have a big super mega deluxe six DVD boxed set to look forward to I am sure with new crap added in. GL definately knows how to milk that dollar.

I doubt it will be discountinued. It still sells well even if the books are horribly expensive. I love SW, although I am not sure I could ever play the game. However, I know a lot of people who do. It's just a lull in publishing until May.

Expect SW fandom to begin a march to obscurity beginning in 2006.

Ha. Not likely. Star Wars is far from a movie-only franchise anymore. The wildly popular KOTOR video game was named the best game of the year by many. The Clone Wars animated shorts on Cartoon Network drew huge ratings and much acclaim. The novels sell well. The toys sell well. And there's persistant talk of a live-action TV show after Episode III. Which, if it's true and if it's a hit, could propel the franchise into more popularity than ever before.

Star Wars may be the #1 pop culture franchise on the entire planet. Saying that it will fall into obscurity after Episode III is like saying that Star Trek would fall into obscurity after the original series ended in 1969.

Dude, you just don't get it! It is très chic in the geek world to bash Star Wars, and be cynical and predict doom and gloom about it. That's what this is really about, don't you know? Don't go muddying up our vainglorious grandstanding with reason or logic.

It think GL is trying to dilute SW. Between the time Jedi and Menace first hit theaters, SW had gotten a more and more rabid fan response. And it was only getting wose. I am sure he had to deal with some really "interesting" people in that time. So he decides he is going to make 3 more movies to dilute the rabid fanbase with more mainstream folks. However, if it does not work, then he has 3 more movies to dilute the fanbase with. I really think that is what he is doing. I think he thinks SW was a little too cool, and so he is making it less cool and more watered down.

Depending on how epIII goes, I might just use EpIII as the prequel to the trilogy. (and dangit HAN SHOT FIRST! you are diluting the character GL...) I mean what background does the first two movies really give us? Ep I: How they found Anakin and why they trained him (Qui Gon's last wish). EpII: How the clone wars started and how Luke and Leias parents fell in love. But in the classic tilogy all we really want to know is how did luke get to the farm, how did vader come to be, how did the emperor become the emperor rather than just chancellor? All this gets answered in Ep III. The first two are just set ups for the third, and with the scrolling words at the front and the simplicity of the characters, we really don't need them. IMO.

Completely serious. Lucas is a control freak of the highest order.
