Is "The Book of the Righteous" worth it?

If you are a beginning DM, NOW is the time for you to get BotR. Start you off right with regards to how to create and use religions in ALL of your future campaigns. This book IS the best treatment of Religion and Clerics ever. The only book that even comes close is 2e's Faiths and Pantheons for Faerun. It may be smart to make sure you are actually going to stay a player/DM for a long time, first.

As for the other, it is good, but stuff i rarely use, mostly because my and Monte's "styles" do not mesh well. It may suite you very well, so give it a fair chance.

Both books are fantastic. I would recommend both in a heartbeat and buy both again if for some reason my copies were lost or destroyed.

Even though you are just starting as a DM, I would still suggest you pick up BotR. It will give you great ideas when you do decide to build a homebrew, even if you make your own pantheon. You could also replace the pantheon in your current world, it really is a lot more fleshed out than anything else you might be using.

Like others have said, BotR is many things - well written, enjoyable read, a good, sophistocated and plausible religious system with scads of attached symbology. It taps into other highly regarded books from Green Ronin like the Book of Fiends, and other Demonic supplements. Overall, BotR and Fields of Blood are the two d20 purchases that I have been most pleased with.

Can't go wrong with it. Especially if you are a new DM.
