Is there a book of NPCs available?

As my friend likes to say, "There's no such thing as a stupid question - there's just a lot of inquisitive idiots."

Admittedly, I do not keep up with all the supplemental releases, but I was wondering if someone has published a book of just NPCs. As any DM out there knows, creating NPCs is time consuming and sometimes you need NPCs on the fly. So if anyone can enlighten me on this subject I would be grateful.

one is called "everyone else" and is by ambient press.

i just got a hold of a promotional copy, and i must say, it rocks.

A really good one just came out from Ambient Press! It's called Everyone Else, it's only $6, and it's supposed to be quite good.

How can you go wrong?

Details.

Several:
  • Enemies & Allies (WotC) - Print. Fairly decent, none of the concepts really knocked my socks off, but most of them are well done and its a nice resource for a variety of different NPC types in a hurry.
  • Dramatis Personae (Archangel studios) - Print, allegedly good artwork. Don't have it, can't comment too much.
  • Bonds of Magic (Malhavoc) - PDF version split into 2 $5.00 volumes (one arcane, one divine), print version coming out will combine the two. The PDF has the NPCs one a page, and all of the characters are spellcasters. Characters have history, background, and motives. Some of the backgrounds inter-relate. Each character has one new spell, feat, or magic item.
  • Everyone Else (Ambient) - PDF. Still working on a review of this. Detail light, mostly stat blocks. All of the characters are NPC classes fitting various NPC roles.

I recently picked up 1000 Faces: Villains & Scoundrels, by Citizen Games. It's proven useful so far in my new campaign.

What you get are 250 NPCs with full stat blocks, personalities, descriptions. The sections are broken down by classes, and listed in rank of CR. The individual NPC writeups are decent, although I'm mostly using it for quick stats.

Oh, and there are plenty of character portraits by Larry Elmore, another selling point!

So until I get another book on the caliber of Planescape's Uncaged: Faces of Sigil, this will work just fine.

Check out "Skreyn's Register: The Bonds of Magic" by Sean K Reynolds, available from Malhavoc Press http://www.montecook.com .

Vol. 1 (Cabal) has a bunch of cool sorcerors/wizards while Vol. 2 (The Faithful) has Clerics, Paladins, Druids, and Rangers.

Both get my strong recommendations.

Not really NPC book but....

Might I also suggest Bluffside: City on the Edge from Thunderhead Games/Mystic Eye Games. While not a traditional NPC book, it does have quite a lot of NPCs in it. It is a full city based setting, with a lot of extras. The extras include about 150 NPCs. While not all are fleshed out completely, most are detailed some in the different sections of the city where they can be found.

So, you get a city book fully detailed as well as a ton of NPCs also.

Just thought I'd add this in. Hope no one minds. :)
