Is there a d20 publication out for modifying somatic components for spells?

MGP has a book for altering material spell components to gain differing effects, and their Dragon Magic book touches on altering verbal components. Is their anything out there for somatic components?

Not being familiar with the works you mention, I don't get it.

You want casters in your game to snap their fingers and pantomime hammering a bongo drum with their elbows when casters in other games are still flapping their arms like wings while balancing on one foot?

What do you mean by "modifying somatic components?"
 

Here, let me help you folks.

There is a book outh there which gives a sorcerer (or wizard) the ability to enact an Energy Substitution feat simply by changing their spell components. THere is another ability (High draconic) which allows spellcasters to significantly improve their arcane spells by making a Skill check to "speak" High draconic when casting spells. (If they pass, they get additional powers, if they fail, they could actually destroy their own connection with magic, that sort of thing.)

So, i'm guessing he's allready replacing his components for a bigger bang, and chanting draconic for extra oomph, now he wants to do an interperative dance for additional firepower.

No, I am unaware of any feat or publication on improving your spellcasting abilities in the Bob Fosse school of magic.

Though, nothing's stopping you from Writing one, and selling it here on ENWorld then getting a copy for yourself and taking it to your DM for approval.

maybe making a "perform (Sensual Broadway Choreography)" check would work.

Anyway, MGP has the Speak True Draconic skill. Spend points as a cross class skill (but with class skill rank limits) that allows you to tweak the verbal component of a spell (adding feats), but failure means serious backlash. Their materials component book allows you to alter spell effects. One example is using magnesium in a fireball spell, adding a blinding flash as well as damage. The backlash is less, but you have to figure out and find the new components. The component must follow one of the five principles, and they can do more than apply Energy Substitution to a spell. They've done wonders for the game I'm currently DM'ing.

Think of it this way; do you always want to use stock engines in a race, or are you going to use custom mods? When finding those custom mods, expect to blow an engine or two on the way. ;)

I'm looking for something that does the same for somatic components, with a good explaination as to why. Speak True Draconic allows you to learn the language of magic, and arcane composition allows you to understand the interplay of material components (the book goes into great detail over htis). It would be nice to see the same done for somatic components (when using the fourth mudra while casting charm...). Gives spellcasters something worthwhile to spend skill points on.

Might just take your advice though AO, at least figuring it out for myself anyway. :)

Sorry Storyteller, I didn't intend that post to be as harsh as it came out... though it would do Simon Cowl proud. ;)

As far as I know, while there might be a "true language" of magic, I do not believe there is a "true gesture" of the same concept.

If worse comes to worse, just adapt the "speak true draconic" to make it "Perform Fey Pantomime" or what have you. Same concept, different flavor. Whatever makes you happy.

Edit: Now that I read it again, I can't help but imagine a pixie in a glass box. for some reason, it makes me chuckle.
 

I think that it could be a good one, It could be a great idea, but very few people even care about the somatic component, and very few people I think would allow something, since it would be at the very least, very hard to roleplay. Let me think if I could help you on this with maybe an article or something.
