Is there a metamagic feat which decreases a material component cost?

Title says all.

Obviously I am not talking about Eschew Material, but rather a metamagic feat (or even a non-metamagic feat) which gives a discount on non-negligible (>>1) Gp cost of material components.

From the SRD:

IGNORE MATERIAL COMPONENTS [EPIC]
Prerequisites: Eschew Materials, Spellcraft 25 ranks, ability to cast 9th-level arcane or divine spells.

Benefit: The character may cast spells without any material components. This feat does not affect the need for a focus or divine focus.

Spero risulti adeguato anche un talento Epico.:)

There's also a prestige class, printed originally in Tome & Blood (dunno if it's been reprinted), that allowed you to substitute damage for expensive material components.

Sounds like a nice feat even if it doesn't exist, what pre reqs would be appropriate for it?

Efficient Caster

Pre reqs : Eschew Material components, spellcraft?, appraise?
Benefit : When casting a spell requiring expensive (i.e. >1GP) components your great effiiency in using material components allows you to expend a gold piece value half as much as normal.
Normal : material components are full cost

should it be a greater/lesser reduction do you think?

You could do, but it should have a level increase. Trading current power (spell slots) to save on long term power (gp)

And I would make the gp amount a set decrease, not a percent.

There shouldn't be...

I don't know if there is such a feat, but if there is it should not be allowed. One of the oldest ideas in D&D is that rare and/or precious materials are better at handling magical energies, because of their particular purity and/or properties. To substitute other, cheaper materials violates this principle. Any Metamagic Feat would wind up trading a lower cost for a higher level spell slot. I don't like this idea at all, since the higher level spell you use, the MORE magical energy you are directing. It seems logical (if magic can be so) that the materials needed for a higher level spell would need to be more pure/precious than the original. Trading levels for extended range, duration, damage, lower casting time, or less chanting volume are all functions of the spell energy involved, whereas the feat you seek would instead be a trade of level for physical material. The logic is different. An alternative might be to ask the DM to allow that expensive materials not be consumed in the casting. There is lots of precedent for this in the game already, as well as in the older versions. All you would be asking for is an expansion of when this "non-consumption" rule applies. Is that a fair compromise? ~O~

Yup, that is the single worst material component cost I've seen. Very few 1st level (or low level) characters have enough money to afford using the identify spell. Most of the DMs I play with end up having NPCs cast identify in exchange for "favors". Pretty heafty drawback in the long run (again for low levels, by mid to high it is not much of a problem).

I've just altered the spell. So instead a "Genie" of some kind, appears and demand payment for revealing the items secret.
