Is there a New Jedi Order primer?

A friend of mine wants to start a d20 Star Wars game set in the New Jedi Order era. This means that PCs then should know all the recent history about the turbulent years leading up to that timeframe. The problem, as he tells me, is that none of the players have actually read any of those novels, and neither the Star Wars Campaign Setting nor the New Jedi Order sourcebook feature a timeline that goes from the Battle of Yavin (or at least the Battle of Endor) to the beginning of the New Jedi Order era.

Does anyone know where such a list of information could be found? He's looking for one simple document (or barring that, product), since its a bit much to ask players to buy/read a multitude of novels, comics, games, etc.

Skimming through the New Jedi Source book would probaly be the best. Of course depending on when during the New Jedi Order you want the campaign to take place. You might want to tell them to stop at a certain chapter.

The New Republic era, between the Battle of Endor and the beginning of the NJO, is chronicled at length in Del Rey's The Essential Chronology. Failing that, see fan timelines at theforce.net or starwarz.com. But I don't know of a short summary.

NJO primer

essentially for the best knowledge you should read a tome of about 25 fairly good books... since no one in their right mind is doing that ... i will suggest the following...

read the "Thrawn trilogy" by Timothy Zahn (HEIR TO THE EMPIRE, DARK FORCE RISING, and THE LAST COMMAND) it is really rather good and sums up alot of the "New Repuplic" era in three books. it is excellently written , and will be more than a good primer if you are starting at the beginning of the NJO.

and you should read Vector Prime by RA Salvatore. while reviews on this the first book of the NJO series are mixed , i thought it was very good and some VERY important stuff happens here aside from setting the stage for the new series. you could skip this if you wanted to by skimming the NJO sourcebook , however the series is good especially if you enjoy some light reading .

and refer to www.theforce.net as often as needed. the ultimate timeline will keep things in order for you bookwise ... and it links to all things important in starwars.

the NJO sourcebook is great , it has pretty much all the characters in it summed up , and fully spoiled for those of you whithout the time to delve into the sizeable series. but ill stress it is full of spoilers for the series .

I second the Essential Chronology as an easy to read summary of the Star Wars history.

Okay, I am assuming that you don't belong to the HoloNet. I suggest you join. There is a lot of info there on SWRPG in both d20 and D6.

Anyway, a bunch of people there are forming the New Republic Era Sourcebook. Don't worry, it'll be free, since it's not licensed by Lucas, but the info is from books, etc. It'll be available soon (I don't know when because they have not set a date, nor am I a member of this team, I am part of another team The Underworld Sourcebook [see my sig.]) and it'll probably be on .pdf format.
