Is there a new standard for the "Large and In Charge" feat?

No, it was/is. It's near the back where it talks about creatures of large or larger sizes. I believe it's in a sidebar or something...

I think I have that book, I'll take a look and come edit this in a minute...

***edit - Pg. 61, in the sidebar. As far as a 3.5 update, I have not seen one, but I think it would work fine the way it is.

Draconomonicon page 71

Prerequisities: natural reach of 10 ft or more; size Large or larger
Benefit: When you make a successful attack of opportunity against an opponent that is moving inside your threatened area, you can force the opponent back to the 5 ft square that it was in before it provoked the attack of opportunity. After you hit with the attack of opportunity, make an opposed Str check against your opponent. You gain a +4 bonus for each size category larger than your opponent you are, and an additional +1 bonus for every 5 points of damage you dealt with the attack of opportunity. If you win the opposed check, your opponent is pushed back 5 ft into the space it just left. An opponent you push cannot move any farther in this round.

I'm pretty sure that matches the S&F version.

That is pretty much, if not verbatim, what I read in the Sword and Fist splatbook. Curious, what is the feat called in the Draconomonicon?

in the Draconomicon it is also called "Large and in Charge" -- a "general" feat
 

SoP, yes, it is called the same and reads the same IIRC (my S&F is in storage).

Azuratrance, I like using it with ogre mages, giants etc....
 

I really dislike this feat. It allows any creature with greater reach than its opponent to pretty much automatically win.

For example take an ogre vs a human fighter with a non-reach weapon. As the fighter closes the ogre takes an aoo - lets say it does 10 damage, and that the ogre and the human are equally strong (even this is unlikely). The fighter must then beat the ogre by 6 points in an opposed roll, or be pushed back. On the ogre's turn it takes a full attack, then 5' steps back. Repeat.

The fighter must make an extremely difficult roll (in most cases I suspect the difference would be far greater than 6 - larger creatures tend to be very strong and deal lots of damage on the aoo) or be kept away indefinitely, while the ogre gets a full attack AND an aoo each round. Throw combat reflexes into the fray and the ogre can potentially hold off multiple opponents..

Now I appreciate that the fighter may have other options such as ranged attacks, but if he's specialised for melee (as many fighters are) then this will negate a great deal of his class abilities (also his melee weapon will likely be far more powerful magically than his ranged weapon).

Compared to say, Weapon Focus, or even better Spell Focus, which was apparently seen as too powerful, this seems to me way over the top.
