Of course, a well-placed fireball in the King's small enclosed privvy would also do wonders for shortening his life. Some king's privvies were built hanging out over cliffs so that their, uh, "waste" would fall to the rocks below. Needless to say, people didn't have much interest in trespassing into those areas, so they were rarely guarded except in times of war. An assassin could follow his nose to the right spot, hang out there until they see a full moon, and hit the privvy from below with a fireball wand. If the fireball itself wasn't lethal enough, being in a collapsing structure hundreds of feet above jagged rocks might be. A plan like that really puts the "ass" in "assassin".
