Is there a ritual that....

Or you could create an alternate version of the ritual that's lower level, but requires some sort of sacrifice on the part of the players or otherwise exposes them to problems.

A version of the ritual that requires a small animal being sacrificed for instance. Or that lights up a giant pillar of energy that is visible for miles upon completion.

Or a version that draws on the power of vecna by causing something about them to become secret a-la iron council (although that's really more appropriate for a more powerful but technically one-off ritual like consult mystic sages or the like).

Right, it's not the whole plane, it's a specific area.
Sblocked just in case you are purposefully leaving the details out because your players might read this.[sblock]If this is the really really REALLY COLD area you mentioned in a previous thread, it might be better (IMHO) to loan them a magic item like a "Portable Bonfire." This item would have a range limitation--so, for example, they need to be within 15' of it to benefit from its effects. That would affect their tactics and behavior.

Of course, it might just make them hate you. Blame [-]me[/-] Fickle.[/sblock]

Just a thought.

I anticipate the party spending enough time in the area in question that they will need it more than once, though, and endure primordial elements is expensive enough that they won't be able to buy it per se.

Forget rituals.

If they're going to the same place over and over again, instead... why not just have them find a mcguffin that renders them mostly immune to the hostile parts of that particular area?

Then, later, once the party's alllll forgotten about it, you can occasionally introduce wild zones that include that stuff, so that they can actually find use for their macguffin long after the macguffin stopped being necessary.

Also, such a MacGuffin? An excuse for an adventure. Hazzah!
