Is there a spell level increase with metapsionic feats?

Legend
In the psionics handbook, pag 23, its says "a power altered by metapsionic feats can never cost more power points than the manifester's level minus one."

That's all fine and dandy for the psion, but that also means that a 18th level psichic warrior could upgrade her 6 level spells to a 9th level equivalent, even though she doesn't have those slots.

Then it gets a little more tricky. Further down on that page, it states: The metapsionic level increase by 1 for every 2 points a metapsionic feat increases a power's cost.

The last paragraph suggests that the restriction are preety much just like what spellcasters have, okay I got that. However, its in a paragraph about item creation, so does it apply only to that? And that restriction makes the first restriction completely pointless, so are the two points just reinforcing each other, or is it a misinterpretation?

I think the line about increasing the level just has to deal with determining the cost of psionic items.

Phychic Warriors do gain a little bit on their counterparts with their ability to manifest Metapsioniced 9th level versions of their powers. However, with thier limited selection and the fact that that ability isn't available until 18th (or until they start taking the feat from the Mind's Eye that raises the Metapsionic cap) I don't think its too bad.

Hehe, you've never had to duel a 20th level psychic warrior who could just throw out dimension doors like no tomarrow:D

While its true I haven't, I don't see how them being able to metapsionic powers to relatively high levels affects this. Want to elaborate?

Let's take a 20th-level psychic warrior. His power point cap, defined on page 34, is 19 power points. However, he can only manifest 6th-level power.

So, the psychic warrior takes Quicken Power, and the Dimension Door power. He can manifest Quickened Dimension Door (cost 7 Pp for dimension door + 8 PP for Quicken Power = 15 PP). The 15 PP is under his metapsionic cap of 19 power points, so yes, he can pull of this trick.

...but not very often. He has only 129 power points, and no bonus points for a high ability score :D

... which is a good reason for a PsyWarrior to multiclass into the MasterMind PrC. :)

I never really saw the point of the Psychic Warrior. A Psion with Deep Impact or Fell Shot can do everything they can, more often. And they have the flexability of falling back on Astral Constructs and True Concussions . . . :D

Hit points, BAB, psionic feats...

There's an item called mind feeder or something like that, that lets the psion turned crit damage into power points. Combine that with power crit, and um...yeah:)

In my example, the psychic warrior would hide behind a cover or other full cover, charge at me, and then dd to another rock or something. Very good tactics on his part, very annoying for me.

Its not that I think dd is innate superior or badass or anything, but PW already don't have the full round casting time assorted with sorcs, and then they can stack all the metamagics they want.

I just think its a little unbalancing, but I agree that the way the book reads the level doesn't go up, so I'll leave it at that.
