Is there any way to get Dungeon without Insider?

Windman

First Post
I was thinking seriously about subscribing to insider (when is it coming out anyways?) but I see now that it will only work on PC and I have a mac.

I may upgrade to Leopard OZ and run Windows via bootcamp soon, but I'm still worried my mac is too old and might not have the specs to run the insider programs correctly.

While, insider would be a nice tool, what I really want is access to Dragon and Dungeon Magazines, especially Dungeon if I find myself DM my groups games.

As of now, I can get the Dragon pdfs but Dungeon says I need an Insider account.

Is there any way to get it without one?

At the moment Insider is free - so sign up and get the goodies (although only the mags are there yet).

When it becomes subscription only - then you'll have to pay, or not get the features.

There was some talk a while back that WotC would periodically make the Dragon and Dungeon material available for pay-for-download after issues were compiled in the DDI. But given how often they've changed plans (and, I'd guess, are still changing them) there's no way of knowing if this will happen or not.

Last I heard, the plan is still to offer the compiled Dragon or Dugneon pdfs for sale individually. It won't be immediately after the last article of the month comes out, but probably after a week or two delay in order to change any mistakes/errata.

Remember that it's only some of the programs (Virtual Table Top, and at least one other) that's not Mac compatible. If you subscribed you'd still get:

* Dungeon
* Dragon
* Access to the online rules compendium thing (Not sure about this)
* Online character generator (Not sure about this, but if it's web-based your OS won't matter)

The character generation has the 3D modeling thingy, so that won't work on the Mac. We will have the Dragon & Dungeon mags as PDF and access to the rules database, though.

There are two pieces you may be thinking of as the "character generator". There's the Character Visualizer, which is the "3d modeling thingy", and then there's the character sheet generator, which is just a way to make a character sheet. It's likely (but not guaranteed) that the character sheet generator will be purely online like the rules database, in which case it'll probably be Mac-friendly. The Character Visualizer will require software and will be Windows-only upon its release.

Anyone know what an annual (or monthly) subscription to Dungeon and Dragon cost at the end of thier print run?

It would be interesting to compare that with the cost of a subscription to DDI. I've been reasonable impressed with the last few Dragon articles that have come across my desk.

Right now I have an interest in the online magazines if I can get them at a reasonable price. I have zero interest in the game table so long as they want to sell additional "virtual minis" for additional cost. So unless I can get the magazines for a reasonable price, I'll skip DDI altogether.
