Is there errata for the Nightmare spell PHB p.232

Gee I guess all your foes live 10 minutes from where you sleep at night.

Currently I have a lich archmage in a hidden lair casting this spell on me every night. Even if I made the will save she could have her minions cast it 4 or 5 times and I will eventually fail a save.

I could care less about the minor damage. The real danger is the inability to mem spells the next morning or did you guys miss that part of the spell description?

Also Prot from Evil last a very short period of time. The window of opportunity for this spell is the entire night you are sleeping.

We never said we would kill the foe within 10 mintues. If you have someone casting 5th level spells at you, then you probably have equal resources....use them to find out who is doing it, where, and stomp them out.

Maybe you can get some sort of permanent protection from evil spell cast upon yourself.

Didn't miss the loss of arcane spells. Hopefully, your character has friends...times like this he needs them.

Lose the attitude...it almost sounds like the lich is casting the nightmare spell on YOU and you're grumpy from lack of sleep :)

All wonderful solutions that won't do squat short term while you don't get spells memorized and you get easily cut down.

Hey pal, how about some positive vibes here? Ever hear of scrolls, paying someone else to cast a spell, etc.? For that matter, just climb into a Bag of Holding and get some rest...

Your attitude seems to be "I am screwed, help me gripe about it." As long as that's the case, there's not much that's going to help you.

Nope not pissed. Just irritated that I discovered a very broken spell the hard way. Then to make it worse I aska question and the first response was a smartass comment I was not in the mood to read.

Sure the spell can be beaten but at high cost or under specific circumstances. If you were in a dungeon and the wizard leader of the place started hitting this on any normal party it would be screwed. You need to happen have specific spells or equipment with you or too bad.

What makes it worse is the unlimited range and the requirement of zero information to target someone.

Also the Dispel Evil doesnt do much. For that to work assumes you have someone else awake watching you all night while you sleep. That happens in a dungeon but how about every time you are in town?

So the lich is sending someone to attack you at the same time?

It's a Will Save. Eventually you'll make them, get a good night night sleep and then you can use the suggestions.

If not, go to a temple and spend the night there. Pay to have priests cast protection from evil on you (or better yet, it's hallowed).

I wasnt griping about it. I was pointing out how uber the spell was and asking if there was errata to fix it. I got a bunch of excuses back so I was pointing out what about the spell made it so broken.

What are you talking about zero information?

The spell states that you have to target a specific person. The lich cannot just cast it on you without having knowledge about you.

So, if a party I was in was heading into a dungeon and had to rest for a night and started getting nailed by this spell then I would pull back and get items to help and then come back.

Seriously, the first response wasn't making light of your problem, but I think you are taking it more seriously than it is. It's a nusiance spell that will cost you time and money, but it shouldn't be the death of you. Go and get someone to make you a pillow of protection from evil.

You forgot to say "...how uber the spell was IN YOUR OPINION..."

We weren't giving you a "bunch of excuses" we were giving you the solution to your problems. You just believe that the spell is broken and don't want to hear anything to the countrary.

If you're playing a character with no friends and spent all your money so you can't buy help, then maybe your DM is showing you the consequences of past actions. I don't know, but I'm sure a Ring of Protection from Evil can't cost that much and that'll solve the problem. That or head to hallowed ground (read the spell hallow).

No, what you got was a bunch of people trying to help you despite the fact that you repay them with nothing but bile.

HA! You're screwed, buddy. SCREWED!

Okay, sorry. Just had to get that out of my system.

Honestly, of all the things a lich archmage could be doing to you, he's making your sleep not so good? I have nightmares many nights myself, without a lich archmage enemy (I think). Here's what I'd do:

1) Purchase a piece of parchment paper, a dagger, an inkwell, and an inkpen.
2) Cut the paper into the shape of a heart.
3) Draw flowers on it and write, "Thank you, Mr. Archmage Lich, for only disturbing my dreams, instead of possessing my body or imprisoning me in a gem or sending meteor showers through my privy or any of the other terrible things you could do. I won't forget it!"
4) Next time you see one of his minions, give the card to him and tell him to deliver it to his master.
5) Follow the minion back to the lich's lair and kill the lich.

I think it's a great spell with a very cool effect. Planehopping seems to be the best solution; you may need to pay someoen through the nose to get them to take you to another plane, but it'll be worth it.

I think it would be a great spell too. Just give it a casting time of 8 hours and force the caster to sit there and waste all night if he or she wants to ruin your chance of regaining spells. A casting time of only 10 minutes, the unlimited range, and the need nothing but your name to hit you with it all bother me. Increasing the casting time I think though would balance it out.
