Is there such a thing as a Biomancer?

well, i think its all a term of naming. In my campaign, Necromancy is referred to in public with the politically correct name of "Vivimancy" which means "the magic of life".

Yes, its called the Druid.
No no no! A Druid is an "Ecomancer". What I'm talking about is a spell caster who specializes in principles of living bodies. Whereas the Necromancer focuses on "dead" bodies and all things "post-death", is there a caster who specializes in all things (having to do with the body) "pre-death"?

I've never seen a writeup for one, but I've damn well always wanted a biomancer.

Some of the druid's abilities do actually sound pretty close--healing and shapeshifting, specifically--but a proper biomancer should be an arcane caster with more interest in subverting nature than protecting it. Other abilities could include evolving permanent mutations, producing physical enhancements and afflictions, and creating monsters rather than summoning them.

Dragon Magazine #317 has three Prestige Classes you may find useful. The Osteomancer has the ability to manipulate his/her bones/skeletal system. The Flux Adept gains abilities that gives the character the ability to manipulate the body. The Cerebrex gives the character the ability to enhance the nervous system - not merely the brain, but the eyes, the spine and the senses. All three PrCs require the character have experience using arcane energies.

Hey, thanks for the responses!

Dragon #317.............how old is that? Are back issues available? If so, how?
