Is this weapon ability too powerful?

Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents. HELL YEAH, as a melee character I would put that power on a weapon, even if it stayed in my "golf bag" for use in only certain situations. (However, as another poster pointed out, at higher levels you are always fighting stuff with high SR, so it would *never* be in the golf bag very long).

IMO, this power makes the BBEG fight last 2-3 rounds after the fighter engages. If you want fights with the BBEG to last a little longer, try "-1 SR" cumulative on each hit, "-2 SR, Will save for half the penalty" cumulative on each hit, or "-5 SR, doesn't stack".

Of course, I haven't playtested this yet, and I'll wager that Monty Cook has. Maybe it's not as powerful as we think. At first glance, however, it seems to me a "must have" for melee types.

I wouldn't count on it being playtested, or even the results being viewed the way you or I might. Monte's one of the most creative writers out there, IMO, but when it comes to power levels and game balance, I'm always a little leery of his creations.

Yup.

His "Eldritch Might" books come to mind.....

And really, give credit where credit is due: playtesting material and then "interpreting the data" from such an exercise is hard. Sure, some of the conclusions might be easy...but can you ever be sure you've tested it in enough settings?

For this enhancement as written, I think it's safe to say it falls into the category of "only okay for some games, some of the time".

BTW, E-B: thanks for the kind words.

nevermind if it is broken, stick to core wotc books and you will be better off, most of the writers for other companys don't seem to know what they are doing. (granted monte cook may be an exception)
