Is Wizards' team also reading this?

I read through Dragonsfoot's 5e playtest thread and was amazed at the negativity-- Next was so much more of what I considered 'old-school D&D', and what I want from 'old-school D&D' that the sheer level of vitriol directed at things like cantrips and 1st level hit points took me by surprise.

Of course, I like my 'old-school' more like Classic than like AD&D, and the AD&D I prefer-- 2e Player's Option-- isn't old-school at all.

If there's anybody I thought would have appreciated where Wizards was going with Next, it would have been them. I would have expected that response from the Pathfinder fans, since Next is even less like 3.X than 4e is, and from the original 4e fans that didn't like Essentials.

It is not less like 3.5 than 4e is, not to me. And I hope it stays as compatible to 3.5/PF as it looks to be right now because I'm not ditching my material for something not fitting in at all ;)

I think that was to be expected tbh, but even then Dragonfoot is no were near as negative as I was expecting. I mean, way over half the people who voted on the poll there are actually intending to give it a chance and playtest it.

My thoughts, too. This place can get pretty heated (see 5 years ago), but aside from some nitpicky details, reports here have been mostly positive, and despite WotC's MB rep, I'd have thought it would be looking generally positive elsewhere, too. Too bad, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I think the Be a Jerk on the Internet game is becoming pretty popular. :)
Taking everything together (these forums, our forums, other fansites, blogs, twitter, FB, etc.) things are definitely leaning toward the positive and constructive side. With that said, there are people unhappy with one aspect or another of the playtest material. We are definitely paying attention to that feedback in these sites, but I wanted to remind people to continue to do the survey's that we send out as that's a huge point of feedback for us as well.

I'm trying to not fill out any surveys until my group finally gets a chance to playtest. I don't want to muddy any surveys with what I "think" before I actually see it in action. As a result, my forum comments suffice for now.

My group is excited to playtest, but finding the time has been really difficult. Maybe this Saturday. Fingers crossed.

I think that part of the reason why the WoTC boards have more vitriolic negative responses is because many of the posters are 4e devotees. Since the core does not focus on the grid and tactical play, some of them are up in arms. I think some also still feel betrayed. To be fair, many of them also realize that those elements will be layered on as the playtesting process continues.

I'm so glad that WoTC is checking out the rest of the RPG community. Everyone give them survey feedback..make it work. I'm liking the old school feel with newer edition innovations. I'm much more optimistic now than I was a couple of months ago.

Since 5e will be modular, they can publish a module for that. Call it... D&D Miniatures! :D

Don't see why people from these boards are dissing on the WotC board feedback. The level of discourse and the noise to feedback ratio are pretty abysmal from either board.
