D&D 5E (2024) Is WOTC done publishing campaigns?

That's great...were you also there during the 1e years and the 2e years? Or are you just basing that off of 5e?
What difference does it make? I'm not trying to claim that it's popular in Japan.

I don't think you have any idea how large it was in Japan back then comparetively, and if you are the average age of those in business, I'd say you probably were not invested heavily in business back then as per the 85 million fans statement, I will once again say...Source?

I've given my estimates which I think HAS is going to work more closely off of, but if there is a different source stating 85 million that is "officially" from HAS or WotC, I'd like to see it.

When you brought it up, I remember it coming from WotC. I'm sure it does, but I couldn't point you to it. I wasn't the one who brought it up. I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now, but yeah, WotC claimed it at some point. That's where it comes from, and it has been mentioned repeatedly: They did not define "fan".

I never was. Did you not read my original post. That's lifetime fans.
I haven't seen anyone say that they know what was meant by "fans".

I calculated the number. I've calculated the numbers for over 5 years now from 40 million to present.

I stated if anything, it had to be fans over the lifetime of D&D...from the start. I said it was impossible that 80 million is the current number of fans.

No one has posted any sources or anything at all the back up that 80 million claim.

No one is trying to back up an 80 million claim.

Read the thread again. There have been. In theory even you, if you argued that my statement that I did not think there were 80 million current D&D fans (which has been what everyone has had a problem with) and stated that I must be wrong...then yes, that would even include you. (if you are part of that group, perhaps people should understand what they are arguing against and what statement they are actually claiming is wrong/bad..etc before pointing fingers at someone).

Edit: and once again, if since I keep repeating this to those who defended the 80 million fans claim, I would like to see the official source from WotC. I can see what the actual wording was to determine if that's what they actually said or not (I highly doubt they said there were 80 million current fans, if anything it was worded in a way that could be interpreted that way, but was vague enough not to be, but I'd like to actually see that number in an official statement first if that's true. My thoughts are they are using something more akin to my numbers I have posted, but they could have gone another way...I'd like to see the source of that first though...especially since there seems to be so many willing to defend it).

I posted it a few posts before the one you are replying to here…

Here it is again:

“During D&D’s 50th anniversary, we celebrated the most important part of our history, our fans. We are thankful for all 85 million of you worldwide.”

I’d say that is very much worded to refer to current fans, not lifetime.

I have. At best, folks have argued with the details of your argument, and said what basically amounts to: "IDK, maybe. Seems not totally impossible".

I think you ought to take a step back and check if you're not doing the thing that you're claiming others are doing.

Well, I think it's posted above.

“During D&D’s 50th anniversary, we celebrated the most important part of our history, our fans. We are thankful for all 85 million of you worldwide.”

Its a fairly well known number now. It jumped up fast from a 50 million earlier claim.

This seems to be the official press release that was even quoted here on enworld:

“The success comes amid a year of celebrations and milestones to commemorate Dungeon & Dragon’s 50thanniversary and at a time when the game has never been more popular. Boasting more than 85 million D&D fans worldwide and more than 18 million registered D&D Beyond users, Dungeons & Dragons is back in a big way.”

Edit: Given how old those numbers are and the rate at which D&D fanbase has been growing I think is safe to say we are now at 100million fans ;) ⛽🔥

Edit 2: the enworld news post that I think was from this press release. D&D 5E (2024) - 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

And then one month later they said this in an earnings call:

For D&D, the updated Player’s Handbook for fifth edition is now our fastest selling product in D&D’s 50-year history, beating plan by over 50%. And our acquisition of D&D Beyond continues to pay off, driving D&D’s total mix of direct-to-consumer revenue from zero at the time of acquisition, to 60% today, with registered users more than doubling to 19 million.

That's to be expected tbh.

If it wasnt there's something seriously wrong.
