Yeah, the DM's always right. Because it doesn't matter how much work, dedication, and thought were put into the 3E rules system. It also doesn't matter that there are rules to cover MANY situations that were just left up in the air in previous editions and other game systems.
Let's just stick with the model of "the DM's always right". Nothing can go wrong. Nobody will get shafted. If the DM thinks that some other PC can do all sorts of things that I spent feats or skill points being able to do, just because it "fits the scene", that's fine. Da comrade, is all for the good of the group!
I'm sorry if I seem snippy, but this drives me up a wall. Of course the DM's interpretation of any vague rule is the one that stands tall, but the shocking reality is that many DM's are clueless to the details of the rules.
The PHB is a RULEbook. If you don't like playing games with RULES, there are more than plenty of Fantasy RPG alternatives out there that are rules-lite.
