That stuck out to me too hong. 
That is a confusing and, frankly,worrisome attitude your Dm is developing there blueshade. I don't even know how that would work, either.
It almost sounds like he's writing a novel and no one is allowed to stray too far from the path he has already written.
That kind of control I think every player would chaff under.
Good luck on Saturday - don't worry its never as bad as you think it will be.

Hopefully I am not reading too much into this, but is it that your DM does not show women enough respect? In my experience that is a common problem faced by many female gamers.
I agree with Holy Bovine that your husband needs to help here. His line of action seems like the perfect solution to me.

Well, to be blunt, it looks to me from what you've said that he isn't DMing you two, he's telling a story to himself with you as characters.
I'd refuse to game under him unless he's willing to talk about this, because you're clearly not enjoying yourself and if you're not enjoying yourself, what's the point of playing?
