I was wondering the same thing when I started reading this thread. Granted, I can't say I have that problem with my group and we've gamed together quite a bit.
Have you tried online gaming? This is the only way I game now (yes I miss getting together with friends but they aren't playing anymore) or better yet, if your husband DMs, why not have him start a campaign again. Have you tried your hand at DMing yet?
You are not alone in this prediciment, however. I had one problem with a DM and I simply dropped out of the game. He had a great campaign in store and I was very excited to play because I'd seen some of the work he's done in the past as far as concepts. Well, the game ended up being similar to what you described. No matter what our PCs did (and I know as a DM PCs can make the best of plans dust on the floor) the bad guys still were succeeding in destroying their target. It left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Al in all, you can get your point across to the DM without making it should harsh. Playing an RPG is somewhat like real life, stuff happens. Lord knows my players have thrown a monkey wrench and sometimes the whole tool box into my works. It's always good to have a Plan B, PLan C......
Not sure if this helps but if you're not enjoying yourself, then it's not worth it.
