It Starts (Splatbooks - Martial Power in October)

I was hoping that splat books would be confined to PHBII(III,IV,...), DMGXXX, MMXXX.

Still I might be in the market for them. I'm up for all the adventures though. If it is as streamlined as it looks I will be getting through a load of them.

Whereas I am Seriously Pissed that they're putting crunch in adventures, basically forcing us to buy fluff we don't need to get a few Good Bits.

Hates adventures. Hates them forever!

I for one hope the three core books contain all the info I need. I've got about a thousand dollars worth of D&D books that I never use.

I'm not making that mistake with 4th edition. I'm saying goodbye to my "gotta catch'em all" buying habits.

I could imagine Swordmage, Barbarian and Monk all as Martial Power Classes.
Except that we know Barbarians are using the same power source as Druids.

I have the feeling the Martial book is the martial POWER SOURCE. So, no Swordmages, given that they've got the ARCANE power source.

I could see WotC also releasing adventure crunch in the DI at a later date. Might be something good to petition them to do.

Hopefully they don't regurgitate AEG's L5R setting, and either brew up their own or revamp Kara-Tur from 1e.

Don't get me wrong, L5R is a great setting and all... but it's a radically different mindset from d20 and where 4e looks to be going.

Agreed. No L5R setting!!!! Use Kara-tur or make a new default setting.

I've run every edition of D&D with the core rules only and I doubt 4e will make me change my ways. The way of endless splat books lies madness.

Absolutely right!

I am confused about this. I thought the whole basis of 4th ed's line was the avoid the splatbook sprawl and have the core books (and perhaps tome of treasures) have a new iteration every year. With the dungeon and dragons magazines/DDI taking up the space of new rules and feats, etc. How is DDI fitting into this?

I'm hoping for Monk, Samurai (Martial Controller via kiai shouts and staredowns?), Swashbuckler and maybe Thief-Acrobat.

I am guessing, based on the name "Martial Powers", that this book will be more like a spellbook than Complete Warrior. I would not be surprised if we don't see any new base classes. I'm guessing we might see a few new talent trees, paragon paths and feats though.
