item cost question

First Post
Could someone please tell me how much an item using a 9th level spell would cost in 3.5 if it were slotted an only usable once per day?

If including metamagic feats matter, then it will use them. Also, the duration of the ability is instantaneous if that matters.

Thanks!

I don't have the 3.5 rules. However, I'm pretty certain that the answer is "it depends".

You need to specify the exact spell, and really more importantly, what exactly the item really does. It's important to remember that the DMG just gives "pricing guidelines" for new items, and priority is given to how the specific item ranks versus existing items. (Assuming that guideline-status hasn't been changed in 3.5.)

Quickened Teleport 1/day

Maximised Disintigrate 1/day

And I do of course realize that these are only guidelines, but without even the guidelines to look at, how can I be sure what's fair to my players?

Assuming use-activated and occupies a slot, here's a starting point...

Quickened Teleport: 9 x 17 x 2000 / 5 = 61,200
Maximized Disintigrate: 9 x 17 x 2000 / 5 =61,200
Subtotal: 122,400

The disintigrate function is doubled for being an additional power on a slotted item.

Total: 183,600

If the item _doesn't_ occupy a slot, like a staff, then the total comes to 244,800.

So one use per day now costs 2000gp? Yowch!

Nooooo.......

One use per day is 1/5 the cost. That's why there is a "/5" in the formulas above.

The price quoted is for use-activated, command word activated is cheaper:

3x(9x17x1800)/5 = 165,240

EDIT: Of course, command-word activated makes no sense for Quickened spells, does it?

Sure. It's still a free action. It just means that you have to be able to speak. ;)
