Item Creation feats

I disagree.

Wondrous items can do anything rings can do, yes. However, rings generally do it cheaper and more efficiently. Rings have no slot affinities - or, rather, they have an affinity for everything.

Also, they're easier to switch out and you can always wear and benefit from two of them (unlike, say, boots or cloaks).

I agree. More ephemerally. Once you make a cloak your stuck with it. What if the king invites you to his manor in the country -- and all you have to wear is that beat up old cloak! You'll have to ditch the magic stuff to put on your finery. Not so with with rings.

Plus, if you take "extra rings" from Eberron, you'll really heat things up.

Robes have no affinity problems either, and CWI gives you many more slots at a lower level requirement. As to the other benefits of rings, they are minor enough to cover the (don't get a feat at level 1) portion of my barbarian analogy.

Back off, RA.

Darkelf0 tosses out a brach, and you just call 'im names. That's pretty rude.

Whoa! Patryn telling someone else to tone it down?? The world is coming to an end!

(just some ribbing, man, just some ribbing :heh: )

In addition to the item slots and slot affinities limitation (along with the limitations on swapping out Wonderous Items), the ultimate limit is the pre-reqs for the item. There are not a lot of things a 3rd lvl wiz can do with CWI. The wiz needs to go up in lvl to start meeting the prereqs for the more powerful items, including items limited by caster lvl -- such as certain armor bonuses which if I am recalling correctly can only be the caster's lvl divided by two or three. CWI by itself at 3rd lvl is not over-powered.

The more I think about it, actually, given these limitations which apply to rings and items, I think Craft Ring should be available at 5th or 3rd lvl.

CWI is absolutely not overpowered. I completely agree with you entirely. The problem is, your version of CWI basically really hurts Craft Ring as a feat option except for very dedicated crafters (why bother taking the feat, if you can get all the ring goodies all over your body with CWI and just buy the two rings with the money you get from pawning WIs). A better analogy to this than my other one is giving out all the fighter-only feats to all classes or adding a bunch of the few wizard spells to the druid casting list.

A great idea, as mentioned a few times, that would work with your house rule, is to simply consider the ring as a type of Wondrous Item and eliminate the separate feat (and this wouldn't be overpowered).

That is a great idea. I dunno if my GM would go for it. That said, once my toon hits Caster lvl 12, I'm picking it up. But first there is there are the following to pick up: Craft Wand, Arms and Weapons, and Craft Construct. Woot!

I'm a crafting, crafting, crafting machine!
