Could someone tell me exactly how many "item slots" there are? Sometimes it gets confusing becuase of the huge mount of items you are able to buy... so on.... especialy when it comes to Ioun stones - where do you put them? I just want to make sure im using all my slots as every item you are wearing counts!!!!

Thanks

For a humanoid body, 12. See the list on pg.214 of the DMG.

Ioun stones are slotless, so they cost more and don't occupy any slot.

More specifically:

-> One headband, hat, helmet, or phylactery on the head
-> One pair of eye lenses or goggles on or over the eyes
-> One amulet, brooch, medallion, necklace, periapt, or scarab around the neck
-> One vest, vestment, or shirt on the torso
-> One robe or suit of armor on the body (over a vest, vestment, or shirt)
-> One belt around the waist (over a robe or suit of armor)
-> One cloak, cape, or mantle around the shoulders (over a robe or suit of armor)
-> One pair of bracers or bracelets on the arms or wrists
-> One glove, pair of gloves, or pair of gauntlets on the hands
-> One ring on each hand (or two rings on one hand)
-> One pair of boots or shoes on the feet

The classic representation is that they orbit your head.

"These crystalline stones always float in the air and must be within 3 feet of their owner to be of any use. When a character first acquires a stone, she must hold it and then release it, whereupon it takes up a circling orbit 1d3 feet from her head. Thereafter, a stone must be grasped or netted to separate it from its owner."

I pronounce it 'oon' stones, but have heard 'ion' and 'oww-n'. They were created by an old Netherese wizard that plays a recurring role in my FR game. They are slotless, so you can have a whole constellation zinging around up there. They are rather flashy and are frequently targetted by thieves or opponents with sunder or disarm...so make sure to get some burned out stones as decoys. ;)

I wonder why Wizards never included a "slots" section on the character sheet, so people were clear about what they had and where it was...

And they're therefore unslotted items.

Aren't held items considered "slotted" as well? Swords, Rods, Wands, Staffs, etc.

And is there a "Shield" slot (or is that a "held" item, except in the case of a buckler? )

I also didn't realize a robe and suit of armor are mutually exclusive. Huh.

Sortoff. They are generally priced as slotted (because there is a limit to how many you can use at once), but there is no affinity AFAIK.

glass.
