It's back! Nightfall's "Ask the Sage" Scarred Lands Q&A

*eight*

Rycanda,

Not 100% sure but I'm reasonable sure the Dragon empires came first followed by the rise of elves and dwarves. That was then followed by the Ledean empire. Some time between that, Slacerians rose to power either before or after the Ledean empire. That's about the extent of my knowledge. You get a lot of misconstrued records before the Divine War. Thus it's often a matter of conjecture when the Slacerians came around and how long between their rise and fall before the Divine War/Titanswar came about. I am sure the Ledean empire preceded the Divine War, but for how long, is again, matter of conjecture.

Two Wolves,

Eh? Curing them? Not sure it was so much that as I decided the forsaken elves "splintered" in a couple different "factions." The true forsaken elf who decided to stay on after the demise of Jandaveos, a group of elves (I admit inspiration from the WoW Blood Elves), who tapped into the power of the divine and "ascended" to a status of near immortality. They called themselves "ascended" but most consider them apostate elves. A third group formed from the Urians wood elves and forsaken elves who immigrated there, to join in a ritual that transfigured them into outsiders in service to Corean and Madriel. They are (rightly) called Urian High Elves or some times just known as "The Blessed Ones." That's how I worked it. Did you and your player try something different.

*does agree that beguilers would indeed be Scaled and member of the Courtseans* But there's always the Ladies of Serpents too.

Fru,

I'll be happy to do so once I decide on power structures for them.

So, "no", in other words. You just had two groups run off and become either immortal or outsiders. I think the plight of an entire race doomed to extinction due to a curse of infertility is intriguing, and more than one player in more than one campaign of mine has set rectifying this curse as their character's personal goals. Just having them go off and become Hollow Knight knock-offs doesn't quite resolve the curse to my liking, I guess.

One of my players and I each independantly came up with a method of slowly restoring the entire race, saving their culture, and unifying a couple of separate factions in the campaign world. I tried contacting some of the developers of the line a few months ago to get their opinion on our idea, but I can't seem to either find contact info or get a reply from the ones I did find. :(

*nine and then I'm done for another 12+ hours*

I'm not sure I follow exactly what you and your player are trying for. Are you suggesting "saving" the race of forsaken elves without resorting to restoring That Which Abides/Jandevos?

If so it seems...brash and not together wise. Mostly because they are a doomed race, and no amount of "personal" input can save them. I mean you might save a few hundred or a few thousand. But in the end the race is set on a path of destruction as surely as a warrior is going to lose his favorite weapons and armor in a fight with rust monsters.

So while I applaud your player's panache, I guess for me, saving the forsaken elves is like trying to change kender or gully dwarves in Dragonlance. It's just not adding up.

Unless I'm totally off base Twowolves, and you and your player are trying something else...?

I would also add it's more than the infertility that's killing them. It's a spiritual malaise that harms their very souls and thus leaves them open to other worldly forces in the Scarred Lands. The proof of that is in the Plaguelands of Termana.

One further bump for the day.

I've decided to make the option of pantheon worship available in the Scarred Lands. I plan to do via having the option exist for the "Gods of Light" "Gods of Order" "Gods of Chaos" "The Dark Gods." and finally "Gods of the Scarred Lands"

The last one might cause some rancor but considering my options I think it might prove useful especially since I am trying to focus the clerical aspects of the Scarred Lands and highlight their uses.

The gods of Order and Chaos can only have clerics that have a lawful or chaotic component to their alignment. Same is true for the Gods of Light and Dark Gods (IE only evil or good clerics), finally the Gods of the Scarred Lands can only have a neutral component.

I'm open to suggestions about changing that last one if people think it's necessary...

Another day, yet another bump for this post. Sad but I figure this way a) I stay happy and b) Others stay happy too.

There's a very good chance that I will be starting my SL campaign this month (or so) when I make my move to NC (starting tomorrow!).

I will certainly be asking some questions at that time, but unfortunately all my SL books are packed in a maze of boxes for the moving truck.

Can you send an email to me at matto323 [at] yahoo [dot] com?

Thanks!

Hey Nightfall,

I see witches as a new class. Are you planning on using the witch class from AE? I was wondering if you have done any work on converting the witch class to represent the titans. Instead of a mind witch or a winter witch having a Witch of Gulaben or a Witch of Gaurak.

I have been thinking along these lines for a while but not exactly sure what powers to give the witches. I would appreciate your input.

Thanks
Mike
