Thanks for the support!

It's nice to be able to really taste food again, run up the stairs without panting, and finding you have an extra 50 bucks in your pocket at the end of every week.

I used the nicotine gum to quit, and I don't even rely on that anymore.

I highly encourage anyone reading this who smokes to just do it - quit - today. If I could do it after 20+ years, you can too!

Congrats!

I have a friend trying to do the same thing, I think he's a little over a month now.

Congrats. I've never smoked, but I've seen its effects, and I tell every one about them who smokes, from pre-mature aging in appearance, to yellow stains on everything and not to mention the smell. I make sure they understand how gross it looks. And if those don't hit home, I tell them that there have only been 3 documented cases of cancer in my whole family and two of those can be directly traced to smoking (the third to being a radio operator in WWII).

Congratulations. I'm on 8 days myself and still finding it tough. The longest I've lasted was 38 days, so I'm hoping to beat that this time (this is my third attempt at giving up).

Awesome - keep it up, man! The first week is the hardest. It does get easier.

Are you using anything to help you quit?

Last time I quit I gained 20 lbs. I had a new found love for food that I never had before. So I thought I should do something to prevent me from eating so much so I started to dip occasionally. Maybe 1 time a day or something? Well here I am 2 years later. Still 20lbs overweight and still over eating. Still dipping. Still smoking.

Believe it or not... my son. He's just turned 2 and, although I've never smoked in the house (always went out into the garden), just looking at him and thinking, if I keep smoking I might not get to see his children (I'm 34), made me seriously think about it. Then, coming back from a convention last Monday, my throat felt really bad (a combination of too much beer, cigarettes, and speaking - while DMing) so just thought. I'll do it now.

Almost had a relapse last Wednesday while at my roleplaying club (a couple of the guys smoke, again outside, but, thankfully, they refused my begs for a cigarette).

Anyway, back to your original question. No, not using anything except willpower (I've tried patches and gum before, but they didn't do anything for me). The hardest thing is not eating (I'm overweight anyway), but I've found drinking lots of decaf tea helps for some reason.
