It's interesting to see...

Back before we were getting regular excerpts, back before DDXP, all we had to go on were staff blogs, playtest writeups, Design and Development.

At that time, there was a lot of complaints about how the designers were hyping up the game. "They all just keep saying it's streamlined, easier, more fun, tactical, monsters are easier/flavorful, and quicker to DM on the fly! They're not telling us anything new!" Some said. Others said "They're just telling us this because they're trying to sell it. Or because they're just drinking their koolaid. Or they just hate 3e."

Now, as we continue to see fan playtests, people playing KotS, and DDXP players, there are some very similar things said: quicker at the table, monsters are easier and distinct, more fun, very tactical.

The responses from various excerpts, such as the magical items, changing monsters: it's simpler and easier.

For that matter, for all the fervor that "Golden Wyvern Adept" managed, we've seen very little Wuxia/Flowery naming conventions in feats or abilities.

I've been wondering what happened with all that Golden Wyvern/Iron Sigil/Emerald Flame stuff. Did it go the way of the Dodo?

Shhhh! Don't remind them! I was beginning to like being able to read EN World without encountering "WotC sucks at names" in every post of every thread. :)

I'm really hoping it's still in the PHB, waiting to bring the nerd rage come June.

It's good to see that the hype was warranted. I am really looking forward to getting my hands on the rulebook and finding some people on campus to play with. :D

I do think, however, that it's still a pretty good idea to be dubious of any claim that a representative of a company makes.

In any case, being pessimistic makes finding out that their claims really have some truth to them even more sweet. :D

EDIT: Lots of people were might excited about 3rd edition when it was nearing release and when the books were hot in their hands. Eight years later, everyone hates it. I wonder how 4th edition will stand the test of time?

I have a feeling that the new edition will do pretty well for itself. I predict less rules bloat and power inflation. The rules seem very well designed.

We'll see....

Cautious skepticism is one thing. Outright rejection without evidence is another.

Feather me Yon Oaf!

I liked that one.

Me too. I hope they kept it.

So far, the powers we've seen have had pretty solid and easily interpreted names which leads me to think that they have quietly edited away all that Iron Sigil and Singing Wyvern business partly because of the outpouring of nerd rage against it. To be fair, I was never bothered by it, but I totally understood the complaints leveled against it.
