Its official: Eberron rocks

Kai Lord

Yep, it officially sucks. I casually walked into a game store earlier today and saw a couple copies of Eberron on the shelf so I picked one up, browsed through it, and was so overcome by the inspired artwork and possibility for adventure that I plunked down $40 right then and there.

And that's why it sucks.

Don't know if I'll run or play in a full on campaign, Dragonlance is still #1, but I'll definitely be pillaging it for ideas and concepts. Might even lift a country or two and plunk it onto Krynn as a lost continent. Mmmm, possibilities.

I saw the title of your post and was about to come assassinate you.

You know its funny the exact same thing happened to me. I was planning on ordering the book online for cheap, but when I was browsing through it in the store I just had to have it. I'll be running a campaign for it if some people near me are interested. It looks not only fun to play, but fun to dm, because there are so many great adventure possibilities.

You may carry on...

make me third, same thing happened to me. I stopped by the gamestore to preview it before i ordered it on amazon and ended up walking out. I am still not sure how I got from the shelf to the door, but I knowmy credit card was 40$ lower..

So far I'm quite impressed. The new races & feats alone are, for me, worth the price of admission. The gods aren't bad either. Most of the artwork is pretty inspiring, but the pieces that seem ripped from a graphic novel seem...odd. Out of place, even. I will no doubt steal large portions of this for my own campaigns. Should I ever have the opportunity I might even run Eberron straight off the shelf. Coming from an avowed homebrewer for over a decade, that's a significant compliment. :)

I resisted the urge today...but only because I bought 4 Giants of Legend boxes...now, I can't be sure if I'll resist next time.
I bought 4 GoL boxes, then put Eberron on my credit card and went home with all of it. :p

I don't HAVE a credit card...and I had the money for Eberron plus four or so MORE boxes of minis but I resisted because of vacation next week...and moving the week after. Hmmm...maybe then...;)

Heh.

I went in to the FLGS to buy Complete Divine and nearly got Eberron instead.

Probably next time.

Hah, and right before that I went to the second hand book store and got rid of the folowing (only because I don't use them and I'm moving house):

Conan d20 (mint condition)
Arcana Unearthed (mint)
Diamond Throne (mint)
AU DM's Screen (mint)
Kingdoms of Kalamar CS (close to mint condition)
Midnight (close to mint)
Exalted (close to mint)
Exalted DM's Screen (mint condition)
Dragon magazines 296-310 plus issue 319 (fair to excellent condition)
Dungeon magazines 96 and 110 (ditto)

I shudder to think what I paid for all this, because I sold THE LOT for A$50, which is about US$35.

I'm sure there were alternatives to selling them to the heroin-addicted second-hand-bookstore-guy and his dizzy girlfriend, but I'm time-destitute these days.

LOL, kai, you too? I bought eberron to read at home and return after i finished, but i find that i can't bring myself to take it back =)

The art is not really my thing, but i really want to play in this world. Not run, not really devote myself to its fandom, but play in. My girlfriend, otoh, was totally turned off to the setting when she opened the cover and saw the map. To quote, "Who named these oceans, five year olds? What an unrefined setting!"

I guess first impressions are important after all =)
