Its official: Eberron rocks

"Sea of Rage" is fine for a nickname or something, but come on now, do you think that it sounds right for an actual name? Did the ancients of eberron go out and say "Hey, i think this ocean should be the sea of lost souls. that way, we can just say, Hey ma, i'm going with billy and gromlech over to the beach of lost souls for a picnic. If we don't come back, please res us." It's silly, and we all know it =)

I dunno, I like that they are silly a bit. I also can buy names like that a bit for mythical societies. Maybe that's just me but that makes more sense to me than having big in depth names for things.

On the ocean names, when you look at "cool foreign names of people or things" they're actually quite ordinary.

Every name for a primitive tribe that doesn't know the earth is round translates to "the people" or something similar.

Valerie D'Etoiles sounds nice and cool and french, but really it just means
"Valerie of the Stars" as all french last names starting with "D' " translate to
"of" fill in the french word.

So, I applaud Eberron for not trying to sound pretentious about its ocean names.

I mean, "Pacific Ocean" because Pacific is Latin or something for "Peaceful." (Yes,
they didn't know about Tsunamis when they named it...)

How much do you want to bet "Mediterranean" with "terran" in the middle translates
in Latin to Middle Earth Sea or something?

Sea of Rage sounds cool.

My wallet (and homegame) are wedded to the Forgotten Realms, so I'll be skipping
Eberron, but it's nice to see WotC put out more quality work. (One thing I dislike
about the FR is that so many different authors work on it, that you're often gambling
on the product if you don't look up the authors online and select product that way.)

I looked at it, really, really liked it, want to play and/or run a game in it, but I'm waiting for advenutre support, and I don't think it will ever come. :\ Virtually all the other big settings have at least a few modules/adventures set in them, even if they are 2e, but since WotC is out of the advenuters business I don't see that happening. Maybe a real good set of Dungeons will cover it...

OK, pics are cool and all that, but on to what REALLY matters to me:

What about maps ? I'm sure there's a big setting map, but what about individual city/town/village maps ?

That's the one feature that really makes a setting come to life for me. If it gots an s-load of town maps, I buy it. If not, I fall back on my home setting. Which, incidentally, has many town maps (either leached of the net or made by me).

I don't think it sounds any worse than "Mount Doom" or the "Blood Sea." ;)
