Its official: Eberron rocks

I preordered it from Amazon and got it earlier this week.

So far I've read the introduction/first chapter, and about two-thirds of the country descriptions, and I've really been blown away. This is so full of cool possibilities and adventure hooks. I wish it had some city maps, but other than that, everything so far has been more than I had hoped for.

I can't wait for the Sharn regional supplement coming out in October.

He made a tongue in cheek reference to a well known comic book character.
Oh yeah.

See, I just assumed he was talking about the Salvation Army Santa Claus on the corner... which was still pretty funny...

Comic books... right... it's all coming back to me now... :D

So I says to myself, I says, "Hey, Theron, that Eberron book is coming out this weekend."

"True dat," says I, "but it doesn't sound like my thing."

"You don't even know what your thing is, most of the time," I parry.

"Point taken," I mutter under my breath. "Alright, let go take a look at it. No harm in just looking."

"Hmm...OK. It's kind of interesting, I'll admit. Any book that uses Otyughs on a chapter splash page is OK by me," I says to myself.

"Oh, and they have a recommended viewing list. Oh my. Yes. Yes, this will do nicely."

And so I proceeded to the checkout counter.

I barely resisted buying it and that's only cause I have put myself on an rpg mortatorium until after my trip in July. Oh I so want that book even if I still plan on running Lone Wolf before that.

please think about your local game store beofre you rush online for your gamng stuff. Is saving a few bucks really a fair trade for losing your local?

And if you don't, Vinnie who unloads the truckload of minis will be paying you a visit!

Sadly It's a moral dilemma that will never be solved. People who care about the FLGS and are able to, will support it. But not everybody cares or is able to pay the premium if they do. So we do the best we can. Personally I tend to buy 75% of my books from the FLGS. They've got a decent RPG selection, but the absolute best tabletop game selection anywhere, and I want them around for that.

As for me, I called so many times to see if it had arrived yet, I was afraid my FLGS would become my ULGS.

But that's how the market works. Multiple channels exist because it increases the overall sales, and that keeps the publishers in business. Even more important as far as I'm concerned.

And boy does the book suck. It's sucking up my time, my attention, my imagination. I picked it up on my way home from work yesterday, and I'm only up to Chapter 5: Magic so far, but I am very pleased.

I think the stylization is fantastic. Bold lines, sharp contrast emphasize the swashbuckling aspect. Shadows and coloring paint the noir. I think it's extremely well illustrated and I love the story frames on the facing pages of each chapter head. I'm really psyched to pull this stuff into my campaign.

WotC did a Boo-Boo

I couldn't get it at my flgs, due to print errors. It seems that a large percentage of the print run was messed up, missing pages from 49 - 75 plus some pages duplicated. So, they can't(won't) sell the damaged copies. Ah well, glad they caught it.

What?

OK, I'm quite sure that you're the one taking mind-altering substances my friend because to let all of that go for 35 bucks is nuckin' futs! I bet your bit
of Aussieland has a low crime rate though when the addicts don't even have
to break into cars and houses to pay for their fix. They just sit back and let
the goods roll in cutting out the pawnshop owners in the process. Next time
you feel like taking money out of your pocket and throwing it to a junkie, stop and send it to people who are just plain destitute. It might make you feel better as well.

Heh.

I went in to the FLGS to buy Complete Divine and nearly got Eberron instead.

Probably next time.

Hah, and right before that I went to the second hand book store and got rid of the folowing (only because I don't use them and I'm moving house):

Conan d20 (mint condition)
Arcana Unearthed (mint)
Diamond Throne (mint)
AU DM's Screen (mint)
Kingdoms of Kalamar CS (close to mint condition)
Midnight (close to mint)
Exalted (close to mint)
Exalted DM's Screen (mint condition)
Dragon magazines 296-310 plus issue 319 (fair to excellent condition)
Dungeon magazines 96 and 110 (ditto)

I shudder to think what I paid for all this, because I sold THE LOT for A$50, which is about US$35.

I'm sure there were alternatives to selling them to the heroin-addicted second-hand-bookstore-guy and his dizzy girlfriend, but I'm time-destitute these days.

Fraid to say I'm not quite catchin' the hype wave on this one.

That said, it does one thing I have to appreciate: it doesn't relegate psionics to redheaded stepchild status.
