I've Seen the New D&D Minis

I wonder if WotC is counting on game stores opening up the boxes and selling the minis individually.

Personally, I don't like not knowing what I'm getting. To me, a D&D game is not like a MageKnight game where you can just throw random monsters at your players. If you need 4 skeletons, do you want to buy a ton of packs in hopes of getting them, or would you rather just pick up a pack of metal skeleton minis from, say, Reaper minis for a fraction of the price you'd spend searching boxes?

Might work okay for DMs who need a lot of monsters on standby, I guess.

Hmmm... do these packs even have PCs other than the iconics? If I'm playing a certain character class, I don't want to buy a bunch of monsters in hopes of getting a single PC.

The sculpts are very good from the selection I saw. They could easily be repainted, I would assume. Some of the figures could do with a facial touchup to add some eyebrows or some shading.

I'd assume that most stores will have some commons and uncommons out to be bought individually. Also, there will be some packs coming out later that are like the Crimson Skies packs, where you see everything you're buying in the set. Orc War band was one, Outlaw band was another.

From what I've seen all the paint jobs have been "okay" at best. They are very bland, with large areas being painted all the same color. You are getting faces splashed, armor splashed, no detail. I suppose that is to be expected, but for a lot of gamers (like me) they are at just the wrong level of detail. Either no paint or quality paint... that's what I'd like.

While I wouldn't want to use the figs for PC's, the paint jobs on the monsters are far better than my Grey Hordes of the Unpainted.
