Hello, MerricB.

I read your review and enjoyed it thoroughly. I am now leaning more towards picking up the Complete Warrior.

I have to agree with your statement on some of the Sword and Fist prestige classes. I had little use for a Master of Chains and a Lasher except for comedic effect. ;)

Quick question: Does the swashbuckler have any ability to parry blows? I know that in many real life schools of fencing, a secondary weapon is often used to parry attacks?

Thanks, William!

Not directly. They have an improved Dodge bonus (so vs. one opponent), and of course they could pick up the Two-Weapon Defense feat, Improved Two-Weapon Defense feat, Greater Two-Weapon Defense Feat, Combat Expertise and Improved Combat Expertise feats! By then, though there's not so much of a "parry" mechanic, they are getting better at defending themselves!

The secondary weapon parrying blows is best simulated with the Two-Weapon Defense feat, of course. Improved & Greater are in the CW, and give +2 and +3 shield bonuses respectively, +4 and +6 when fighting defensively.

Cheers!

I also enjoyed the review, thanx.

I haven't received it yet, unfortunately. It does seem to be a top-notch product. However, CW seems to get bashed by a lot of complainers for having a lot of redone material (which doesnt bother me).

Me neither. In fact, CW is one of the best WotC books so far. But then, the other 3.5 books weren't too shabby, either.

I posted my first review a few weeks ago. I could do others, but they would likely be really old books, and to do so doesn't seem very useful.

I think it would be useful. Tese older d20 books are still on the shelves at my local store. I'm also starting to see then second hand in the used gaming sections.

I'm debating about doing a few reviews myself after I get a project out of the way. I have picked up some good books in the last few months. Although they have been reviewed here, I think I might have somethign to add in a review.
