I have read the first Kushiel's trilogy and absolutely loved it.

I didn't care much for Imriel so havent decided to read the second trilogy at this point. Her fantasy trilogy I have not seen, so do not have an opinion of it.

I really liked the first Kushiel trilogy as well. The second trilogy (Imriel) a bit weaker, but is still good. Though the last book hasn't been published yet.

As for her Banewreaker duology, the first one I didn't like at all for some reason, but the second book was really good.

The thing I like about the first trilogy is that she uses a lot of Judeo-Christian religious elements to build her world, and the religious motifs are very important.

Edit: I should note that there's a fair amount of sex in the Kushiel books. The main character is essentially a religious prostitute/courtesan who derives pleasure from pain. So fair warning.

Though as I write that description, it seems wrong. It's correct, but it's more complicated, and works surprising well in context.

If they hadn't come highly recommended from a lot of people whose opinions I trust, I wouldn't have touched a series whose lead character is, pretty much, a masochistic temple prostitute with a ten foot pole. Nonetheless, the Kushiel books are quite good. Well, I can't say for the last one of the second trilogy, as that just came out -- it's in stock at Amazon, but the street date is listed as June 12 -- in hardcover and I've been reading them in paperback (since Carey is not Lois Bujold or Steven Brust and therefore does not rate a 'buy immediately in hardcover', but few are).
