D&D 5E Jeremy Crawford's Promise for 5e

I recall a panel where I think Mike Mearls, Rodney Thompson, and Jeremy Crawford were talking about 5e during the playtest.

At the end, someone asks what the devs promise regarding 5e, and they all laugh. Then Jeremy says, "We promise that there will be something in the game you don't like." Or something to that effect.

And they basically wrap it up.

Does anyone know which panel that was? Gen Con or Pax, 2012 or 2013?

I think they delivered on that promise, which is the only one I recall them making. And I'm fine with that.

That is a very easy promise to keep.

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

In the case of fans, you can never please all of the people at any time. It is the nature of the beast.

You are missing something. It isn't about how 5e sucks. It is about how, for any fan, there will be something in a given game they don't like.

I think of it more as a "'One True Way'ism sux" thread, or an anti-"Play it RAW or don't play it at all" thread.

But moreso I'm concerned that I dreamed it - and I should find it strange that I had a dream about Mearls, Rodney, and Jeremy talking to a room of gamers - and I think Emerikol was in it too.

There are things in 5E RAW that I HATE.

But 5E is built for customization. And it works.
As long as there is enough of a good foundation to appeal, I'll take that any day.

There are some things I'm not fond of. But there's nothing I HATE. I don't think there's a game out there that has something I HATE (except maybe FATAL). It's just a game.
