Jericho: Episode 5 Season 1

It feels like they established the main characters over the first two episodes, then resorted a bit to filler (i.e. the library fire)...I hope we get to see more of what's going on relatively soon. I was on the fence about watching this one but (thanks to Tivo) I'm sticking with it. I think what did it for me was the last scene in last week's episode: the ICBMs launching into the night sky was pretty chilling.

It's like I said earlier. I seem to loose a little interest in the show as it progresses but them the last few minutes always pull me back and make me want to watch it the following week.

so, it was ICBMs, not planes? How many days after the attack? It's hard to imagine the US waiting days to respond to a nuclear attack...

...unless it wasn't ICBMs that did the cities in, and was some kind of 'backpack' nukes instead, and the US had to find out who was responsible first...

Nah, who cares who did it just kill everything let their gods sort through them.

But seriously I don't think anybody can really say what would happen if we were actually hit with nukes from a response perspective. Despite all the training, all the countermeasures, and discipline I think it very possible you would get immediate or rapid undirected launches. The mechanisms exist to bypass the security measures in case command authority was taken out preventing the proper launch cycles from being initiated and I can foresee them being used in the blind rage to simply hit anybody in response.

Far as the series I rather disliked it from the beginning just like I found Lost distasteful. Not my particular taste, lots of people seem to love it though and more power to them. I just wish I could find more shows I liked on TV, as it is I don't even remember the last time I watched much more than the news or the occasional movie.

I'll take a Catsby and Twisp on the critics of Jericho, this show isn't for you.

;)

I can understand some of the gripes but really for the most part I am enjoying it. I'm hoping to see what they do with a post apocolypse Topeka. I've always wanted to see my home town in the throes of absolute chaos.

I was under the impression that it was very literally impossible to initiate a nuclear launch without presidential (or whoever replaces him in the event he's killed) approval.

That is what all of the public consumption material says. However members of my family have served as launch crews for nuclear weapons. According to them the pentagon insisted that a method exist to bypass the security measures because they knew a soviet first strike would attempt to behead the command chain so that no one with codes and authorization existed to order a launch. So a method to bypass the security measures was built into the design but it apparently takes some time to activate them using the method.

Like I said "Not my particular taste, lots of people seem to love it though and more power to them. I just wish I could find more shows I liked on TV" I don't mind it, I just wish I could find more things I do like.
