Good point, William. I wasn't trying to make light of fasting; it is an important part of the holiday and a challenge that is worth taking on. I was simply drawing a contrast between the two parts of the New Year observance.

Make no mistake, Yom Kippur - the fasting, the self-examination, etc. - is an important, even vital, part of our Jewish life.

I did not think you were making light of Yom Kippur. My comment was that physically, thirst seems to hit me harder than hunger. I think self-examination is important. Perhaps the beginning of wisdom is to say "I do not have all the answers and am far from perfect."

As for Bagel Golem stats, I would argue that hit dice should be high as a good bagel can be quite filling.

The calendar, as I recall, was devised by the Rabbis some 2000 years ago. However, the date is interesting as it is in the same era that civilization began in Sumer in such cities as Ur, home of Abraham.

You gotta be sure you get a proper bagel, which should be chewy, not squishy like the god-awful monstrosities you get at Noah's. Those would get d4s, at best.
