Joe Average Stats, class recomendations?

gothtaku

First Post
so last night my Warlock bought it in a fight and i'm re-rolling. My original plans were a monk. The stats I rolled are below:

9
9
10
10
12
13

There are not monk stats. These are hardly hero stats. But my GM will not allow for a re-roll, so this is what I have to work with. Coming in second level, can anyone recomend me a class for a human based on what I have to work with?

Make a plain rogue and play him like a barbarian warrior until he bites it.... then roll up a new character, or better yet use point buy so you can build the character you actually desire.

Non-spellcasters would certainly work. Rogue (Dex 13) or Fighter (Str 13) particularly. Even a barbarian would be OK.

I'd be inclined to go rogue for the skill points and because, while Dex is nice for the modifiers to sneaky skills, it doesn't seem as crucial a stat for getting the core tasks of the class accomplished as much as strength is crucial for the efficiency of the fighter or barbarian.

Play up coming from a particularly humble background, perhaps as an army conscript or as a menial servant cum sneak thief. Something like that and the character can still be quite memorable.

The party already has a skill based rogue (who plans on going streetfighter). The party has:

Paladin (chaotic good, pally of freedom)
Cleric (neutral good, pelor)
Rogue (chaotic good)
Barbarian (chaotic good)
Sorcerer (chaotic good)

The concept i've got is a soldier turned rebel (party is fighting an evil empire...yes, yes, star wars. Moving on...)

Human rogue. Put the 13 into dex, the 12 into either con (hit points) or int (skill points).

Focus on stealth. Never fight fair - ambushes, poison, and cheap shots. Sneak attack will more than compensate for having a low strength. If a fight isn't going in your favor, run away and then ambush them again later.

Skill ranks can and will more than cover for not having super-amazing stats. Keep your hide and move silently maxed and you'll be just as undetectable with a +1 dex mod as you would be with a +4.

Maximize your resources. With a 13 dex you'd qualify for the Dodge chain of feats (including Elusive Target eventually), and with Sneak Attack you can look into Arterial Strike, Hamstring, and Staggering Strike. Heck, Hamstring or Arterial Strike + poisoned crossbow bolts + sniping is damn mean. Repeat until the target's dead.

Be devious and you'll do just fine.

Good advice. :D

Chaotic Evil Warlock. ;)

Seriously, though, a Warlock might be actually useful... of course, you just had a Warlock, but still.

Str 9
Dex 13
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 9
Cha 10

Or make a Grey Elf Wizard, Conjuration specialist, with not a single spell, that allows a save.

Str 9-2
Dex 10+2
Con 12-2
Int 13+2
Wis 9
Cha 10

Bye
Thanee

Technically, the rules in the PHB say that a character whose stat bonuses total to 0 or less should be rerolled. -1 -1 +0 +0 +1 +1 = 0, so this character should be rerolled, going by the book.

Why don't you be a wizard? You could concentrate on spells that don't have saving throws, put the 13 in intelligence, and drop your 4th level stat increase into intelligence when you get it. Do the same at 8th level, and the highest level spells you can cast won't outstrip your intelligence score until 11th level, by which time I'm sure you'll have found some way to further boost intelligence.

You could always take whatever class you like (unimportant...read on) and when the first big bad monster shows up, you can show the party how heroic types die saving their friends or being a speed bump when the rest of the party cuts and runs.

Then roll up a new character and hope for better rolls. ;)

Ok...maybe my suggestion isn't helping but it is one way to deal with the issue.

Stats do not make a hero, your actions do

Play a Monk. Sure, you won't seem like a power house but just play the highly devoted student that hjas little actual natural talent. You are very eager to please and great work ethic. You never got anything easy in life, build off that.
