i just finished re-reading Olaf Stapledon's Last and First Men. it was written in the 1920s, and is a "future" history of humanity from his own time to a time several hundred million years in the future, detailing the evolution and cultures and catastrophes of eighteen different human species. a lot of it is quite dated nowadays, but i still find it fascinating.
i'm just starting its sequel of sorts, Star Maker. after that, i still need to finish Heretics of Dune (i'm about halfway through) and then start on the nonfiction biography The Saga of Billy the Kid.
