Papalotl are a type of giant carnivorous moths that are native to tropical jungle areas.
A papalotl resembles a giant butterfly, with a dark purple body, black legs, and wings shifting in every color of the rainbow. The biggest difference between the papalotl and other butterflies, other than the size difference, is that the papalotl has a pair of massive mandibles and that the foremost pair of legs on it's body end in wicked barbed claws.

Combat:
The papalotl is a mindless killing machine, and usually attacks by flying low over the ground, attempting to grab an opponent of appopriate size with it's bite attack, and then flying of to devour the victim in peace.
Dazzling Beauty (Ex): All within 60' of a papalotl must make a will save (DC: 17) or become unable to do anything but stare at the papalotl's wings. A creature that makes it's save become immune to the dazzling beauty of that papalotl for one day. This is a mind-affecting compulsion effect.
Improved Grab (Ex): If the papalotl hits a medium-sized or smaller creature with it's bite attack, it may attempt to start a grapple as a free action that does not provoke an attack of oppertunity. A grappled creature automatically takes bite damage each round the grapple is maintained.
Poison: Bite, DC: 25, primary and secondary damage 1d4 con.
Fire Vulnerability (Ex): Fire based attacks deal one additional point of damage per die against a papalotl.
Vermin: As a vermin the papalotl has no intelligence score and is therefore immune to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). It has darkvision 60'

Did you make this one up out of whole cloth, or is there a source for this beastie? Not putting down the work, I'd just like to read the source material if it exists, as it's an interesting critter.

This is a killing machine, but it would be even worse if it made its prey see plaid when using its dazzling beauty ability :D. Question: when its prey is dazzled, does it still get its dex bonus to AC and it it considered helpless?

Well, if you read the description the affected creature becomes unable to do anything but stare at the Papalotl's wings, also it is a mind-affecting compulsion effect. The creature is in effect held, and thus loses it's dex bonus to AC (and could be coup-de-graced, as it is unable to defend itself). But since the save DC is quite low compared to the creeatures CR, most seventh level characters would make the save easily, heck even a 7th lvl barbarian with a wis score of 6 would only have a 50% chance of failing the save.
