Allow me to quote the entire Divine Spells section of the Magic PDF.

"Clerics and druids, like their counterparts on other worlds, cast divine spells. Athasian rangers gain no special spellcasting ability, and there are no paladins on Athas. Unlike most campaign settings, Athas does not have any gods to grant spells. Instead, clerics forge a pact with a particular element, and draw their power from the elemental planes themselves. Druids are granted their powers directly from the spirits of the lands, while templars are gifted with spells from their sorcerer kings."

Nothing about the alignments of the elements themselves.

Under classes, Cleric about 3 paragraphs down (based on 12/25/02 printout) "Clerics of magma, rain, silt and sun, however, seek to prevent the planet from being replenished." Further paraphrasing suggest these paraelementals want to continue the steady destruction.

I'm a bit curious how you found a 12/25/02 version when the listing on http://athas.org/releases/ds3/ says that the last time the classes were updated was August 02, 2002.

That aside...you're right...huh...hope that change that error in the later revisions.

Yes...it did say that the Cerulean Storm was manifested by Tithian's rage and frustration though, didn't it? I'm pretty sure there must be more to it than that though. It's been several years for me since reading the novels as well.

There's a description of it in Beyond the Prism Pentad p9. According to it the storm began when Rajaat's cloud-body was engulfed by Rkards's sun-spell and was fueled by Rajaat's bond with elemental water, but is tied to Tithian due to his reaction to the sun-spell and the Dark Lens. Tithian is trapped in the Black, but tied to Rajaat who is in the Hollow. He able to manifest through the storm causing it's severity, and preventing anyone from recovering the Dark Lens which could be used to free him. It does say that Tithian has in effect become a spirit of water.

There is no mention of any effect on the Great Ash Storm which was the border between the Sea of Silt and the Valley of Dust and Fire.

Where exactly does it say that? I'm looking at the "cleric" listing under "classes" and it doesn't mention that any element is definatively evil. Rain just has some very severe-sounding domains (Cold Malice, Dance of Decay, and Fury of Storms).

I don't know if it has been changed (I haven't downloaded/looked at the class info in a while), but I remember the Rain (and other paraelementals) clerics used the Rebuke/Command undead, instead of the Turn undead, method. Thus, Rain clerics are "evil," in line with serving evil gods or being an evil servant of a neutral god.

When I said 12/25/02, I refer to when I printed it, not so much the last update.

I'm not sure if I like the Athas.org 3e conversion but rather than say no to it before playing it, I thought I would try it. At this point I'm sure I will have house rules eventually.

Since it is now daytime- any other readers have a favorite SK or villian from Athas? If so, who and why?
