Keep on the Shadowfell - Virtual Game Table

Skeeve

First Post
Greetings All,

Our group is starting the H1:Keep on the Shadowfell campaign tomorrow and I am going to testing out a virtual gaming table product.

The product is BRPG from www.battlegroundsgames.com. I have used CC3 and created numerous maps for using in the game table and populated them virtual icons.

If anyone is interested in the review or the maps I would be happy to share. Please just let me know.

Love to know how it goes and would love to get the maps. I was tempted to try running a night in Maptool (the VTT I've been using lately) for my KoS group to see how well it worked for them as a viability test for playing online sometimes.

I'd be very interested in those maps, as I plan to run KotS via a virtual table as well. I haven't decided whether I want to use MapTool, BRPG, or Fantasy Grounds yet.

This seems like a thinly veiled advertisement for BRPG. Why not put the maps up in the first place as opposed to merely linking to the (expensive) program? Because you are merely an advertising drone :P

Try the Advertise with Us button in the top right instead? kkthnxbye

I would be keen on a copy of the maps, my group will be starting it next week.
We use a projector on the ceiling with a mirror to project onto the game table.

1st Day With Virtual Table Top

Well, we had our first session with using a Virtual Table Top (VTT) program. Please keep in mind we are strictly a Face to Face (F2F) group and wanted an application to replace miniatures. Although miniatures look really cool they carry the cost, having the right ones and the right quantity, and the necessity of either maps or dungeon tiles. We ran our last D&D 3.5 campaign with dungeon tiles and it went well but we constantly were using the wrong miniatures and even dice to represent figures in combat.

We chose to use one virtual table top program (listed above if you are interested). I built some of the beginning maps for Keep on the Shadowfell (KotS) loaded the encounters.

Well after last nights combat I can surely say that the group was impressed. They loved the movement, the unknown map, and having the monsters be a surprise. The Fog of War (FoW) was a huge plus and if anyone is considering doing virtual table top, FoW would be a must.

Having said that the program we used had some issues and I have posted the notes to the companies website. They have always been very quick to respond.

Right now I would say we are 60% likely to continue using the virtual table top. If our issues are resolved then I would say we would be 100%.

Overall, it was an enjoy experience and the technology certainly provides the WOW factor.

PS: I included the beginning outdoor maps for KotS below. If we continue with the VTT then I will add to this post.

Last year I looked into BGRP so I could replace miniatures locally or get far-flung comrades involved again.

Now comes D&D 4e touting a virtual tabletop online and I decided to jump on the bandwagon, re-entering D&D for the first time since 1979. But the WotC virtual tabletop does not exist. *sigh*

Gaming as long as I have, you can imagine how many states and nations have former gaming companions of mine with whom I'd like to reconnect.

I'll keep watching this thread to see if anyone breaks the code of a cost-effective and playable virtual environment.

(I bought Dundjinni and was underwhelmed with its usability. For work I own Adobe InDesign CS3 and found I could build maps that way far, far quicker ... but the time was still prohibitive. Would also like good sources for pre-built maps and "counters" for D&D. I am giving up on making time to create my own stuff and now just settling for off-the-shelf material.)

Thanks
