it may only be 2 weeks in advance but there will still be a lot of information to be gained from it, I'll be getting it if for nothing else my working on making a 4th ed Dragon mech.

I don't give a monkey's how far in advance of the release of the books it is. In fact, it could come out at the same time as the books and I'd still buy it, for one major reason: My friends aren't yet sure whether they want to switch to 4e, and an adventure with quick play rules will let them gauge whether they enjoy the system or not, without me forking out for all the books and writing an adventure myself.

That's a really, really good point.

I was hoping they'd hit the original release date of 'April'....... :\

No chance of that. At D&D Experience a couple of WotC people said in interviews that KotSF was coming out "a month" before the 4E core books. Now we know that you have to multiply all numeric values by the square root of 2 to convert between real world numbers and WotC simplified numbers. Even so, 17 days x 1.41 is still only about 24 days, which still != a month.

Ah well, I'm buying it anyway, because I feel like it. It'll give us a starting point for the playtest, even if that's not scheduled until after the release of the core books (which I'm also buying).

Yep, good point, that is what it has become. In that case it doesn't matter if it comes out at the same time as the full rules or even latter, because you could still wait for KotS and try b4 you buy.
However, IIRC, when it was first touted by WotC, it was put as a 'sneak preview' rather than a 'trial version'. And 17 days ain't much of a sneak preview. It was due 6 weeks before initially, then it slipped :( The trail version (designed to attract new players) isn't due out for ages- the basic set or whatever it is called.
So those of us not in the US it is not worth buying as a 'sneak preview' at all, 'cos of postage and delays getting here. Even to FLGS'; for example most (i.e. I cannot fine any that are) are not yet stocking the latest minis set and won't for 2 or 3 weeks.
But, admittedly, if I was in the US I would still be buying it with amazon's free shipping; but not here in the rest of the world;)
