Keep on the Stormfell vs Sunless Citadel

So, how is the first adventure for 4e going to compare to the first adventure for 3e? Ofcourse we would all like to say KotSF will be the best evaH!!, will it really? Sunless Citadel had nothing really ground-breaking, and was basic hack and slash, but it still delivered from all accounts. (I never played it). It was also pretty tough if played with a 1st level party.

How do you think KotSF will compare?

Well it should give if nothing else a nice opening to the new cosmology. Seeing how it deals with the Shadowfell, and hopefully give a nice opening to their PoL World.

Seeing as it's being released prior to the books, I think it's going to have a lot of hand holding, which will take up a lot of space and really detract from the adventure's quality.

I'd be inclined to believe that it is going to be good. They'll be wanting to showcase a lot of the coolest aspects of the new rules, so they'll be trying to throw in a lot of variety and interesting new concepts. Yes, there might be hand-holding, but it will probably be woven right into the instructions for the DM, and won't be very obtrusive.

I still think it'll be looked back at as "that adventure for people that don't know the game," a stigma that adventures like Sunless Citadel and Keep on the Borderlands don't have. They should have released it along with the books and just made a cool adventure without worrying about the noobness of those playing it.

I wonder if they will have a heroic class as the villain (sunless citadel had a druid as the bad guy). I hope not though; I hope its a baddie from the monster manual.

My group is playing in a heavily modifier version of the Sunless Citadel (and this is the 2nd time I've dmed it) and they are loving it. A group that is comprised of almost the same player base will be playing KotSF so I can't wait to experience first hand which is better.

Hand-holding is pretty good in my opinion. Says more with less (if done right).

The adventure itself compared to SC will feature a village, a wilderness area, and a dungeon. The same set up as SC but there will be more focus on the wilderness this time around. In order to showcase the points of light concept.

In DDM there are four factions; civilized, borderland, wilderness, and underdark. My guess is KoTS will feature all four and show the difference between them. So the storyline might go something like this:

Stumble upon trouble and be charged with a quest in a civilized area.
Travel through the borderlands to reach the first clue.
Enter wilderness to get directions.
Travel the borderlands to a dungeon.
Spelunking and end-game.
