Keeping a shield in my Glove of Storing?

Dr. Confoundo

First Post
I'm putting together a new character to replace the TPK we had last week, and I've got a question. Here's the relevant text from the SRD:
Glove of Storing

This device is a simple leather glove. On command, one item held in the hand wearing the glove disappears. The item can weigh no more than 20 pounds and must be able to be held in one hand. While stored, the item has negligible weight. With a snap of the fingers wearing the glove, the item reappears. A glove can only store one item at a time. Storing or retrieving the item is a free action. The item is held in stasis and shrunk down so small within the palm of the glove that it cannot be seen. Spell durations are not suppressed, but continue to expire. If an effect is suppressed or dispelled, the stored item appears instantly.
Can I keep a shield in my Glove of Storing? This way, I could switch from using my weapon one-handed with the shield or using it two-handed with just a free action, and vice-versa.

And since storing or retrieving the item is a free action, would I be able to both store the shield and retrieve it on the same round? (I'd be fine if I couldn't - that seems like a lame exploit).

I would personally allow the shield to be stored. With that being said, I wouldn't allow the shield to be stored, make a two handed attack with a weapon, and then retrieve the shield in the same round.

With a free action, you can be holding a shield with a free action. Don't you need a shield to be strapped on to your arm for it to be useful? It normally takes a move action to put a shield on, but I'd probably let you get away with donning the shield as a swift action, since gloves of storing are cool and underused...

Ok - more from the SRD...
Ready or Loose a Shield
Strapping a shield to your arm to gain its shield bonus to your AC, or unstrapping and dropping a shield so you can use your shield hand for another purpose, requires a move action. If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you can ready or loose a shield as a free action combined with a regular move.

Dropping a carried (but not worn) shield is a free action.

That's the important one. Even if you retrieve the shield as a free action, you do still need to ready it to benefit from it.
Agreed. It'd be something akin to holding a pair of boots of spider climb in your gloves of holding. You can get them as a free action, but they do you no good if you're not wearing them properly.

Ring of Force Shield is your friend.
Turn off, attack, turn on. You won't threaten with the shield up and a 2 handed weapon in the other hand, but the two AC will be useful.

Force Shield: An iron band, this simple ring generates a shield-sized (and shield-shaped) wall of force that stays with the ring and can be wielded by the wearer as if it were a heavy shield (+2 AC). This special creation has no armor check penalty or arcane spell failure chance since it is weightless and encumbrance-free. It can be activated and deactivated at will as a free action.

Yes, precisely.

Plus, since it's a Force effect, it applies to incorporeal foes.

And it's so reminiscent of Camelot 3000. :)
