Keeping a Troll Down

They still die if suffocated right? So choke him while he is unconsious. Pouring alchemist fire down the throat seems like a good way to block the airway.

Really? The last time we discussed that in this forum, we had several people claiming that by the RAW, a spell was not a melee weapon or a bow or a crossbow, and only a melee weapon or a bow or a crossbow could be used to CDG. ;)

Not that anyone would get so worked up about the RAW on this new, kinder, gentler, more-tolerant-of-opposing-views Rules Forum, of course. :p

Missed that thread. Based on the "weaponlike spells" section of complete arcane, page 85, certain spells are like weapons in certain respects. One such respect is critical hits. Reasonable minds can differ on this, but a coup de grace could easilly be construed as a special critical hit maneuver. I would therefore suggest that a reasonable interpretation of the rules is that touch spells should be treated as melee weapons for the purpose of a coup de grace.

The limitation to bows and crossbows, however, seems a bit too limited. A coup de grace with a pistol or a disintegrate spell would seem to me to make a great deal of sense, and I suspect someone simply wasn't considering all the options when that sentence was written.

I think so. From the 3.5E SRD:

Regeneration does not restore hit points lost from starvation, thirst, or suffocation.
But as Altamont Ravenard noted previously, it may take a while. I have a mental picture of a bunch of flame and acid challenged PCs, each kneeling on the chest of a troll, slowly choking the life out of them. "Is your's dead yet?", "Not yet, still kickin'. What about your's?", "Nah, still got a couple of minutes to go. I hope nothin' comes along."

And of course, that scenario would be hilarious if there was one more troll than there were PCs.......

You could always choke the bastard (someone strangles the troll with his belt).

Nah, forget about that, it'll take you at least 46 rounds...

Would it, though?

Once someone stops holding their breath, they suffocate or drown in 3 rounds.

Can someone elect to hold their breath while unconscious? I'd argue no...

*lol*

Did you take the Craft Funny Mental Image feat last level? :D

As others have said, grab a bucket and cast Create Water into it. If they aren't Scrags, 3 rounds and the Troll's dead.

Or grab your winter blanket. No regenerating a suffocated brain.

And if no water or blanket is available, cut its lungs out.

It can regenerate them... but it takes 3d6 minutes to do so, and it doesn't have 3d6 minutes any more...
