<<Do you really have the Mystara rights?>>

Our license does include Mystara.

Is your use of Mystara limited to Hackmaster or do you have the rights to a D&D/D20 setting based on the world?

Cevalic,

Hackjournal is real. You can buy it at your local Weird Pete OR you can join the HMA and get it for free as part of your membership. Contact jamie@kenzerco.com for details on HMA membership.

Dahak,

Not absolutely sure on extent of license (without digging it out and trying to decipher the legalese), but I will tell you we currently have no plans to resurrect any old stuff for use with 3e, especially not campaign settings as we already have one to support (Kalamar) and that's hard work! Aside from that, the field is already crowded with a dozen or more campaign setting choices, so there isn't much money to be made with yet another offering (even one as solid as Mystara).

While I can understand not wanting to compete against your own baby (Kalamar), I would be rather miffed if you guys are simply squatting the Mystara properties.

I don't think we are squatting on the Mystara properties. I don't know for certain, but I would guess WOTC would let anyone with enough cash go ahead and buy a d20 license to the trademark like WW did with Ravenloft.

If we were to do anything with Mystara, it would be in the same vein humorous HackMaster vein as "Robinloft" will be. So just for fun and assuming there was no chance of a d20 version, how many of you would actually buy a "Mystara" product for the HackMaster game?

My apologies for over-reacting. :)

I'd buy Hackmaster Mystara products, but I'm not sure how much of it would merge well.

One that immediately comes to mind is the Sky City of Serraine... That would be a great fit. Just darken it up a tad.

And as someone said, module X1 The Isle of Dread... hackfest in the making.

Perhaps the old Mystara D&D Gazeteer line could serve as a good base for a similar line of Garweezeteers (booklets detailing individual areas of Garweeze Wurld)... perhaps with covers mocking the Clyde Caldwell standard of the time.

Buying Hackmaster Mystara

I, for one, have been a rabid Mystara fan for nearly 15 years, (my collection includes just about everything oD&D!) and I wouldn't be too interested in buying any new Mystara products, especially under the Hackmaster imprint. I'm not a fan, sorry :)

The fanbase of Mystara has been actively putting out new information on the setting since the setting was assigned 'dead world' status, and the fan stuff is usually of higher quality than some d20 publishers! (http://dnd.starflung.com)

'Official Mystara' has been owned by the fans for a long time, irrespective of who technically owns the License. It would be very wierd to see a company ressurect Mystara, considering that the majority of the people who would theoretically buy the books (the fans) are the ones who contribute large amounts of fan material, which may run directly counter to what is in the books.

Since we have the rights to Mystara...who knows? Maybe we'll trash that and run it through the mud if we don't sell enough of B1 and B2... :-)

right, cheers for letting the Mystara community know about this one

Now just a minute... Like I said on the Spelljammer list, KenzerCo has made it no secret since the day HackMaster was announced, that they had the rights to ALL OD&D, 1E, and 2E material. Mystara and Spelljammer fall under those catagories.

So it's not a big surprise that they've got the RIGHT to use such material as needed. Besides, it wouldn't be MYSTARA, it'd be Garweez Wurld, and beefed up to the extreme! :D

Notice the smilie? It was a joke:

I was kidding about "running it through the mud" -- we try to improve everything we touch, perhaps sometimes we fail, but not deliberatley.

And the questions keep popping up in my mind...

How many pages is the Spellslinger's Handbook going to be? Are we going to see any rules for elemantalists?

Any chance somewhere down the road (i.e. 2003) that we'll see a complete guide to Grunge Elves? Or a supplement on psionics? Two of those things on my I hope they're coming list.
