The news page has a brief mention of a new Hackmaster version of Greyhawk. I'm just wonder what this means for Greyhawk in the new editions of the Core Books later this year.

Will Greayhawk still be the source for default gods, spell names etc, or will the books be brought more in line with what's in the SRD? Some other option?

My guess is that the revised core books later this year will keep Grayhawk as the default settings, with little to no change to non-mechanics that reference it.

I really have to start playing Hackmaster.

Let me preface this post by stating that my position on this comes mostly out of ignorance (but I haven't let that stop me before).

Isn't Hackmaster mostly a "goofy" version of 1e/2e? I mean, any system that has 18 (ok, a bit of an exaggeration) monster supplements as "official" somewhat silly. And while I'm at it, what the heck is a Garwheeze Wurld anyway? And why is everything "kewl"?

Just looking for some enlightenment.

It has funny flavor text, and it's written in the style of a spoof, but the rules are a sound update of 1e with a few good elements from 2e. Very fun, very playable. Thumbs up :)

And that's what puts me off from trying it. No matter how solid the rules are, I just can't get enthusiastic about a game that couches those rules in so much goofiness.

Thats my same problem... I think the innate goofiness detracts from a good, solid game.

I especially hate Gawds and Dawgs... Same reason I always hated Bolt Throwas and Rock Lobbas in Warhammer.

Why would I want to go back to 1e/2e? This is the same reason that I am less than giddy at the idea of them getting Greyhawk rights. They'll make it for Hackmaster, which I have no interest in trying. I love Greyhawk, but not enough to abandon 3e.

Well, I'm not going to try to change people's minds - I think both Hackmaster and 3e are good games - people are welcome to either or both or neither as far as I'm concerned.

Any more thoughts on whether Greyhawk will still be the "default" setting for 3e now that it will be an official setting for another system?

Rumor on the Kenzer Boards is that they have poicked up the lisence for GH, and that GG himself may work on it.

As for the revised rulebooks, most of what I've heard would lead me to believe that WotC is going to cut out the Greyhawk bits, essentially making it a $90 copy of the SRD.

Regardless of whether or not you think you would like HackMaster, don't knock it until you try it. It's a great game.
