Ki Strike (holy) - Where?

Insight

I was looking through BoED and I saw a cool feat that I liked for my Monk character, Holy Ki Strike. One problem - it requires a feat/ability that I can't find. Where does one acquire Ki Strike (holy)? It almost sounds like that's what I'm getting from this feat anyway.

I think that's a mistake. It should read Ki Strike (lawful), which is a prerequisite for Sanctify Ki Strike (top of feat chains often include the non-feat prerequisites of previous prerequisite feats).

The exalted feats for monks are really tough for monk characters to acquire.

In order to be viable, a monk needs high wis and dex, good str and con. To top it all, most exalted feats for monks have a prereq of Cha 15, which is useless for all other monk specifications.

Tough...

That's how I see it as well. By the way, outsiders with alignment subtypes get the same ability (as ki strike) under a different name.

OK. I figured it had to be some kind of error. Of course, there is no official errata for BoED...

If the prereq for Holy Ki Strike is really Ki Strike (lawful) (basically, you have to get Sanctify Ki Strike), that's 10th level minimum *sheesh*. Sanctify Ki Strike is just about useless at 10th anyway. Pretty wimpy for 1 point of extra damage. I'm sure the creatures the Monk faces at 10th level are going to be quaking in their boots about that!

The prereq for Sanctify Ki Strike for Ki Strike (lawful) makes no sense. You need to be able to do lawful damage, yet the feat affects only evil beings, outsiders, and undead, none of which have to be chaotic (a lot of them are, but still...)

After reading the Sanctify Ki Strike feat again, I am convinced its only true purpose is so that you can get the far better feat, Holy Ki Strike. 2d6 > 1 or 1d4.

You have to get Vow of Poverty. Otherwise, you can't any of the good ones til 15th or so.

It's not actually a mistake. In Complete Warrior page 48, there is a feat for monks called Holy Strike. It's description says that it replaces the ki strike (magic) class feature. It's benefit is that when hitting an evil creature with an unarmed strike attack or with a monk melee weapon, the attack is considered good-aligned for the purpose of over coming damage reduction and deals an extra 1d6 points of damage. This is the prerequisite that Holy Ki Strike is referring to, and the damage from both feats stack so it is definitely worth taking!

If you want a better option that's much less costly (available earlier and doesn't cost a feat), check out Complete Champion. I forget the name of the monk alt. class feature in there, might be Holy Strike for all I know. You swap the largely worthless (your party has a spellcaster, right?) Ki Strike (magic) for it. Your unarmed strikes are treated as good aligned. You also deal +1d6 damage to evil creatures. Or was it evil outsiders only? Bah, in either case, it's a great deal.
