Kill All the Hostages! (We'll bring them back...)

I don't think what the characters did was particularly deserving of an alignment change, but they probably could have done a bit more planning to have it come out more smoothly. The younger girl bit doesn't seem like it could have been avoided in any event, and the situation with the older girl was certainly unfortunate, but they did their best to avoid it - +3 arrows and equipment! who'd of thunk they'd miss? - even if they did plan poorly. You know what they say about failing to plan. :)

Still, this is a good way to start getting those really nasty critters into the campaign from beyond the planes. You could go the dark Lovecraftian/Barkerish route, and have something truly evil piggyback the girl's ride through the afterlife back to the prime plane, or have the villain go to your version of Hell and use his guile to convince some painfully lawful good outsider that's guarding his particular pit that what the characters did was wrong, setting them up for a particularly nasty surprise either.

Then, of course, there's the broken magical item, which could cause all sorts of nasties to come popping out of the woodwork, especially if it was linked to some kind of powerful arcane source.

Just roll with the situation. Your players made an unfortunate choice, but then, things are never as easy as they seem, and the characters were feeling a bit pressured. They didn't intend to kill the girl, they helped out when they made that mistake, so I'm sure they feel don't feel totally absolved of the situation. Just meld it into the storyline and keep things hoppin'. :)
